Calling out "Adam Howard" aka "Linux is best", a person or group of persons creating, rotating and constantly running more than 20 Fediverse accounts in parallel, to get away with concern trolling and spreading defamation.

Their specialty is denouncing #GazaVerified, a verification initiative that was founded to give #Palestinians in #Gaza a voice.

"Adam Howard" / "Linux is best" is continuously trying to sabotage any donations to people in dire need, by slandering them as a fraud, wherever possible.

Please report the respective posts to your instance admins, and have your reports forwarded to the instances that harbor the accounts of this scum. IMO, a #fediblock is overdue.

You could look at your tax bill like this...

The government creates all money (either directly by spending or indirectly through the banks it licences). All of this money is created out of nothing - it's just 'IOUs' written by the government - which is why UK bank notes always had printed on them "I promise to pay the bearer on demand".

The money created by banks when they make loans is cancelled - destroyed - when the loans are repaid.

The money created when the government spends is destroyed when the government collects it back in tax.

Tax does not pay for government spending - it's the other way round.

The government doesn't collect back in tax all the money it creates (and of course bank loans don't always get repaid) - this is the money in circulation, savings, etc - and it's 'the national debt' - the difference between the amount of money the government has created and the amount it has destroyed. Public debt IS private wealth.

If the government doesn't destroy enough money - ie. doesn't tax enough - there will be too much in circulation, and it's value will fall - that's inflation. So when you pay tax, you're not funding anything - you're protecting the value of the other money you have.

By the way, all this is not just a way of looking at tax - it is in fact all true (if you live in a country with its own currency, or in the eurozone, which has shared euro ownership).

Note on the above, I deliberately avoided using "AI" or "LLM" to describe non-human contribs because I, like many others, have filters skimming that stuff out of my timeline.

Hey! If you want to support a human made, queer led, free operating system that is doing something new and interesting, go chip ElementaryOS a few bucks.

The team putting it together is absolutely devoted to the community, rejects non-human contributions, and is loud and proud about building an ethically sourced, truly accessible platform for the average person.

Maybe you don't use Elementary OS or care about the work it is doing, but your aging auntie, disabled neighbor, colorblind friend, or non-native English speaking co-worker may get a ton of value out of it.

Contributions to EOS also support development of the Pantheon DE which is one of the lightest, friendliest, and most stunningly beautiful projects to grace FOSS in a long time.

@abmurrow Debian's LLM GR isn't just a "no" or "yes" - there are 4 proposals currently slated to be on the ballot, and more may yet be added during the discussion period - which I thought had started when the initial proposal was sent?

One thing I will say for Debian, is that when they get round to making a decision, they normally have a wide range of nuanced, carefully thought-out positions for each member to rank, and there usually isn't *much* knee-jerk cheerleading from any one position.

Circling back on the LLM/AI contribs in Debian thing.

The "no" camps and "yes" camps are pretty evenly split.

I'm going to say it. I think Elementary OS' model of a pay-what-you-want OS is much better than the free model that most Linux distros go by. While it is still entirely possible to get Elementary OS for free by just entering 0 in the currency section, the fact that there is a prompt at all presses on users that free software is *worth something* and not just free labor.

The OS should be free, but it should be made obvious that its just as valuable as proprietary operating systems.

Yo chooms, after loads of years (I reckon 4 or 5), I’ve finally added the features to my 88x31 Button Generator that had been lying around for ages but were never properly implemented. Until now, ha!

The 88x31 Button Generator V2 has loads of new features that you’ve been asking for over the years. The live preview is now better, you can finally work with layers, there’s a template browser, you can save your settings and reload them later, oh, and loads more cool stuff like that!

And for those who don’t like the changes or find them difficult, the old version is still available <3

There’ll be a few more features coming soon :)
