It's unusual but not unheard of for me to wake up in the middle of the night and have to use the bathroom. It's also unusual for me to wake up with a song stuck in my head.
I think I can pretty confidently say that, before last night, I've *never* woken up in August at 2:30am to go to the bathroom and had "Jingle Bells" running through my head.

If you think about it, the whole "white van with Free Candy on it" stranger danger archetype is a near exact modern day retelling of Hänsel und Gretel.

And both tropes are not grounded in reality and were really invented to spread distrust of people outside the traditional patriarchal home, and both misuse child abuse as metaphorical imagery to advocate for the isolation of children and the reinforcement of conservative home values.

Maybe because I am unemployed at the end of this month so need a new job (career?) and my children no longer need round-the-clock attention so I must redefine my definitions of daily success without them and I am perimenopausal so my body is basically giving my brain the middle finger.

as of this moment, we can't actually afford cost of living.
I moved out of a deep red state to somewhere safe for my mental health. I was in an abusive household, some of it got ... weird (as in, sexual, indirectly), and I, uh, hopefully obviously, would rather not go back to that if I can help it. as a result, my finances (and until extremely recently, my job prospects) have been extremely unstable. if I did not have to pay off my car or gas, it would be fine. literally; having gas money back would fix it. not by much, but it'd fix it. that's like ... idk. 80/mo? roughly. anyway because of the fact that I was trying not to go back to my hell hole, I incurred a significant amount of credit debt. it's not impossibly high, but the interest is sitting at the point where if I don't make this post and ask for help I really don't know what we can do other than wait until bankruptcy (and then we'll be 1,000% fucked more than we currently are). I currently work 44 hours (we're only allowed 4 hours OT where I work, idk if that's a WA thing) with a ~1hr commute round-trip every day, and it's very barely breaking even by myself. this was something that my partner and I went into knowing well in advance, but things are kind of hitting all at aonce, and I don't know that I can support us.
I'm asking y'all for help. fediverse, people at home, internet creatures and ethereal eldritch horrors far and near. I've been on Fedi since nearly the beginning, and had a few Delete Crises of my own, but I don't want things to turn for the worse again, possibly for good (can't be on fedi if I'm working 12 hours 7 days to survive). I have a family I'm trying to start now. I have my partner @izalia@sharkey.barkshark.xyz living here, and I have a senior dog who needs to be cared for. he's fine, but he's not young, y'kn- so moving around a lot is something that I'd like to do as little of as possible.
so what do I need? what would help? what would get us going again at the most basic minimum? I said $80, but I really don't know how long that would last since gas is going THE FUCK back up (and the cheapest near me is still $4.47/gal). so I would say closer to $150 as a monthly. basically the taxes and medicare costs (that I can't really use) that gets stolen from me each paycheck would fix everything. ironic isn't it.
my partner (it/its) is looking for a job. it is very extremely brains at computer touching, so any of y'all whomst might be on the lookout for a contracted dragon to live inside your servers for a while would be absolutely a creature-send. surely you might ask "but that's money I don't have" and you know what? fair. but also, at a monthly wage of $500, that's a hair over $3 an hour, less than federal min wage. (obviously higher would be much more preferred, but literally, we're just trying not to starve and lose our living space)
all this said, I would also be open to some sort of computer work, but that's a nother conversation that I want to have when I can get us stabilized if possible.
