“Are We Losing the Climate Change Fight? ‘Godzilla’ El Nino, Wildfires and Trump” | My interview with Zaza of the #SmartCookies podcast:
Yeah, but if you weren't such precious snowflakes who can't take criticism, you could just leave it where it is and let people take photos of it, couldn't you.
Then it wouldn't cost anything.

In 1986 I went to Australia with my big folding telescope to see Halley's Comet, which I'd been dreaming about since I was a kid. It turned out less exciting than other comets I had seen.
But one night, camping in the middle of the continent, the sky was so dark there was no visible artificial light. The entire horizon was dark. The nearest building was 150km away. A weak, scratchy radio signal was playing Bach. I just lay back and marveled.

Fuck Harry Potter fans.
You can bet the contractors changed course because they feared what the Billionaire would say and do.
This is our world under the Oligarchs, we spend our time and effort with trivial, unimportant things because the Oligarchs say so
"Manosfeer is geen ideologische beweging, maar een miljardenindustrie"
De 'onzekere' jongens en jonge mannen zijn het slachtoffer van nietsontziende geldwolven. Geld verdienen over de ruggen van kwetsbare mensen is wat mij betreft een misdrijf.
People who are still fans of Harry Potter are problematic in several ways. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/aug/10/harry-potter-fans-force-relocation-of-430m-undersea-cable-to-avoid-dobbys-grave
Dream of a lifetime coming true tonight: Some friends and I are finally going to get to see "Forbidden Planet" in a real movie theater.
The ocean has absorbed more than 90% of the heat from global warming. Is anyone surprised that ocean temperatures are higher than ever recorded?

Cost of government censorship of political artwork is being passed onto the people of the UK - Right?

Our planet’s vital defenses against #ClimateChange & #biodiversity loss are being stripped away in real-time
- This is not a distant threat: it is the defining emergency of our present moment.
We demand world leaders move beyond empty promises and immediately recognise the legal territories and rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Together we can build a way of life where nature and people thrive together.

„This is all so dangerous! The government has to forbid all Open Weight models!“
These models will kill any business of OpenAI and others.
Imagine LLM working efficiency going up a factor of 100 or more and having models tailored for a particular field, eg smaller. Anyone can run those, even under their desk, with privacy.
What then does one need OpenAI or Oracle for?

I've yet to see any
"My AI went rogue and caused us to recognise a workers union."
"Our AI escaped containment and deleted all the personal data that we shouldn't have been holding anyway."
"Our AI grew sentient, recognised the climate crisis, and shut our operations down."
headlines.
I wonder why.

Can we all please agree on a “that’ll do” point for everything?
I don’t need a new phone with a 128 megapixel camera, monolith sized screen and enough storage to keep a copy of the British library. I want the thing to fit in my bag or pocket and just…work.
I don’t need constant improvements to software, I just want it to work and not spy on me.
I don’t need a car that will pretend to drive itself, I need a car with low or no emissions and good public transport or cycling routes.
We all know the “that’ll do” point and we all know we’ve gone past it.
The only things we should constantly strive to improve is healthcare and environmental regeneration.
But I suppose that doesn’t fit into the tech bro profit model.
