This is Horrifying. 356 sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln attempted suicide during a 6 month deployment.

Watching live video of the Artemisll crew being brought to the ship by helicopter. A helicopter passing over my house providing the sound track, plus Gustav Holstz's triumphant "Jupiter" on the radio.

Article in Australia's national news about "enshittification" but without using that word. @pluralistic

#Australia

Seems apt.

#Ramping is a big issue in #SouthAustralia right now, with many ambulances queued outside Emergency departments, patients on board waiting hours for hospital beds to be freed up.

We're told that it's the Federal govt's fault bc they haven't provided enough aged care places for older patients to be moved to.

The 🐘 in the room is #covid. We're not told how many beds that's taking up, or how many more might be available if measures like masking were re-introduced.

I'd be very curious to know.

Strained my back on Friday. Still hobbling around with a walking stick. Can't do anything. Starting to get a bit demoralised.

Very odd. A demolition company just dropped a bin the size of a shipping container on the street out the front of my house. I just had time to think "wrong address?" and they came and took it away again. What a relief!

Seems to me the issue of protecting young people on social media is about content moderation.

If you think you know anything about the beheading of this statue - no, you don't.

I'm a bit skeptical when these "mental health issues" only manifest when you're with your wife, but disappear when you're at work or with your footy team.

Some bright spark just posted a photo he said was "the aurora borealis in Hobart, Tasmania".

Must be the furthest south it's ever been seen! 😉

Trying not to make too many inane comments on Mastodon this morning. Brain not fully awake yet.

I'm going with "doesn't understand them".

Ever got on with tasks that are familiar to avoid facing the big difficult thing?

My guess is that governments are keeping busy with same old business as usual, announcing new hospitals, expressways, swimming centres, all things that have won them votes in the past BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.

"Owing to the identification of religion with virtue, together with the fact that the most religious men are not the most intelligent, a religious education gives courage to the stupid to resist the authority of educated men, as has happened, for example, where the teaching of evolution has been made illegal. So far as I can remember, there is not one word in the Gospels in praise of intelligence; and in this respect ministers of religion follow gospel authority more closely than in some others.“

— Bertrand Russell, Education and the Social Order (1932), Ch. VIII: Religion in Education, p. 110
