⁂ is called an asterism. In astronomy, it refers to groups of stars in the sky, akin to constellations. We suggest that it’s a very fitting symbol for the fediverse, a galaxy of interconnected spaces which is decentralised and has an astronomically-themed name. It represents several stars coming together, connecting but each their own, without a centre.

don't let the assholes at the helm of AI bubble make you think you really own your art

you don't

we had this 'cultural war' before

it was named 'piracy' (of music)

you don't own anything you make. it's built on shoulders of others who came before you. everything is just a remix. you're adding your own flavor to (or through) an assemblage, collage of things you heard and learned from others.

it's special because it's an aesthetic experience, a resistance to death, and it's really really needed in this world. so, go make it, as it matters more than you think.

but it's not your property. you don't own it. you think you do because it's just the system that appeared through provocation by greed and profit and capital (see Anna's Statute) that can today force you to want to "protect" your work in order to put food on the table. but it's not a natural right, it's power play originating from middle of previous millennium.

AI situation today is similar: a new technology provokes a reaction to protect the work of artists, to not line pockets of greedy assholes with money while creators can't pay their bills. that's understandable reaction. but a wrong implementation of such protection.

instead of privatizing the commons we should fight to protect it for everyone with rules and conditions how can it be used.

food for thought.

>> “User” is abstraction, homogenisation, commodification, interchangeability, and ultimately manipulation. It is a word laden with unpleasant connotations to addiction and of course conjures the spectre of colonial exploitation via gunboat diplomacy and the sale of opiates to the masses.

Meanwhile “Experience” implies something sterile and dead, a curated natural history museum filled with captured specimens and the nauseating smell of formaldehyde, aimed at “delight” (titillation), instead of a deeper, more respectful relationship with the people that are living through the numbered days of the torment nexus.

[...]

How can we work within these types frameworks when they are so broken?

I don’t claim to have any definitive answers, but I have a few ideas. They all entail killing the “user”.<<
