We're just a month away from the Montréal trip. We're staying across Rue St-Urbain one block way from Parc Jeanne-Mance.
My parents are probably not going to want to journey too far from that home base.
I might have asked but I am failing to recall: Are there two or three places that you think visitors from blue US west coast cities should check out in and around Plateau Mont-Royal?

@ohmu A transit pass is great. Take a 80 bus (runs every 5 min) along Parc south about 6 blocks to Place des Arts plaza. The concert stages should be up by mid June for free music.
Walking along Ste-Catherine St from there to McGill College Ave, gives you a feel for Downton core. It also on the metro line from Place des Arts.
I would suggest returning by metro to Mont-Royal station. Mont-Royal ave is pedestrianized in summer. Lovely for coffee & people watching!
@ohmu @AnnaAnthro food wise there are so many places and they’re probably all good. A metro pass would do you wonders for mobility. The old city and big markets (Jean talon and Atwater) are accessible and great visits. Mount Royal is a lovely walk and view. Reservoir is a brewery and resto on Duluth (a great, mostly pedestrians street nearby) and it’s one of my oldest go-to places in the city. Many interesting restaurants are BYOW (apportez votre vin) which can be a nice.

This is awesome to know (though breweries are, alas, not a thing for me anymore).
I'm curious if there are just, y'know, places? I am seeing parks. Some vague notions about museums.
Like, a thing I will tell anyone visiting Seattle is to take a ferry. Any ferry. Doesn't matter where to. And that the UW Arboretum is beautiful and free.
@ohmu One of my absolute fave parts of my city are the Canal boat history tours.
They leave from an Old Montreal pier and take you thru the locks to Atwater Market. The story of the city is intimately related to the harbour and Canal.
There also water taxis from Old Montreal to Ste Helen’s Island.
@ohmu Walk down Rachel av, two blocks to Mont Royal Parc. There are public tennis, baseball and beach volleyball courts that are fun to watch in the evenings.
And the tam tam & bongo drummers converge at the foot of the tall statue on weekends.
From St Urbain & Mont Royal is the 11 bus that takes you to the top of Mount Royal near the Chalet. You can see the whole city from the lookouts. The carriage road down is tree covered & gently sloped & takes you back to Parc Ave

Old train tracks have been turned into an urban park called Le Reseau Vert. It is just north of my fave park in the city: Laurier.

@ohmu I like walking amidst the remaining old Expo 1967 pavilions esp the Buckminster Fuller dome. There is a nice food court area called Les Floralies. Sometimes open-air free concerts.
