I was speculating with a friend last night (Ob. fess: we were a tad refreshed!) about how I seem to have lost the attention span to watch a movie. The first third is action and story setup, and the last third is drama and conclusion, and the middle is just meh. His take was 'Many films now basically have NO STORY anymore. The wizz-bang at the front and back are IT. The stuff in the middle is to satisfy the product placement deals"

This seems plausible. Or perhaps I'm just ready for my dementia assessment!

It took me over an hour the other day to watch a six minute video.
My ADHD is sometimes so intrusive and I can barely give things a solid 2 minutes, before I need to flit elsewhere and watch that. Now maybe I just wasn’t interested in the video, but it got ridiculous how often I chose to be distracted. I don’t think I’ve watched a movie through in years unless in theatre.

My current 'workaround', which sometimes works, is instead of maximising the movie window, I'll leave it on half-screen, and have other stuff going on in other windows. I can flick my attention to and from throughout.

I think this is very often the case. So many films and series favour style over substance.
