Asking people to CW is "being a fucking cop?" (This accusation came from a white person.)

Y'all, I realize that there's a certain kind of "reactionary anarchy" here that amounts to "fuck you I won't do what you tell me."

Like having no masters is one thing, but having zero consideration for other people is not any kind of anarchy I respect. I don't even think of it as 'anarchism'.

Every time you get in your feelings and go, "Why should I care about other people?" you're in the wrong. It's the genesis, the basis, of every exclusionary hate moment. ("Why should I use their pronouns??? Why should I be expected to stop using the r-word? I like that word! Why should I accept new genders? It's fine you believe that, but don't force ME to do it....")

That's why I blocked that Daring Fireball douchebag like four years ago, because he decided to start a "Why should I? HOW DARE YOU" barrage of posts brigading the person who politely asked him to CW politics with his thousands of followers as if he wasn't identifying himself as a big giant asshole that no one should waste their time listening to in the first place.

Just a big loud white person going, "WHY SHOULD I? How dare you???"

(See also whinging little fuck Popehat for similar flouncing entitlements, who can't take a bit of direct criticism on a platform where people aren't forced to maintain the 'positive peace which is the absence of tension.' You've got millions of followers who will back you and take your side no matter what you say, amigo, I think you'll be okay.)

The most controversial point about this oft-libertarian-leaning space is that people are allowed to set boundaries. It shouldn't be.

Sometimes people will even reply to your thread to politely inform you that, for people like them, they'd receive your posts a lot better, might be willing to boost them, and would just appreciate it in general if they had a CW. Also implied in this critique is the understanding that more people might follow you or not block you if you do this, but no one seems to understand this implied suggestion.

Of course, I silently refuse to boost politics posts that aren't CW'd a lot. Without telling nayone.

Lots of people just quietly ignore, refuse to boost, or even block people who routinely do this, to keep it out of their feed. But every so often, a small subset of that group try to give you a heads up, as a courtesy really--

And some of you assholes kill the messenger every time. With your "WHY SHOULD I????" entitlement that expends way more energy than just editing the fucking post, dear fuck.

I've been an absolute asshole in the past, who has blurted out insults at some point on here when I was angry that were hurtful to others I didn't intend to hurt, and I've never had anything but the most polite and respectful corrections from people who could have easily said, "Hey, you're being an ableist fuck. Stop it," and didn't.

This reminds me a lot of the story I hear on other platforms about how people supposedly DEMAND you use their pronouns and if you don't, they cancel you.

Like for me it's never happened that way. It's a polite request to correct the record, and I do every time because me getting a "why should I?" feeling in response to that request?

THAT'S A TELL. You need to kill, murder, absolutely eviscerate that feeling when it comes up for you. It becomes easier the more you do it.

Ask yourself if it's truly hurting anyone to CW your post, to remove an ableist phrase, or

Because what actually happened is someone replied to you as a courtesy, which they didn't have to do, and are informing you of a thing that will help your point be better received.

You going, "Well if they don't like it, they can fuck off" is certainly your right. But it also identifies you as the kind of person who is unhelpful to rely on for any kind of solidarity and don't be surprised if your audience and perspective increasingly narrows as the network orients itself around you.

"The HOA"

The fedi 'HOA' has been mischaracterized a lot. Be wary of any white person trying to use that phrase.

The HOA is not communities setting boundaries and looking out for themselves.

The HOA is, if anything, an attitude like, "Why should I accommodate you at all?" and "Where's the racism? I don't see it. Please bring your concerns to the next meeting with evidence, please. Have you tried blocking people or moving to your own server?"

1- line your glass with a blue fruit roll up.
Then you're going to need:
2 oz rum
4 oz juice that is kinda yellow (pineapple, mango, orange, lemonade, whatever you like)
1 oz blue curacao (you can adjust for color)
Garnish with lime zest
The yellow and blue liquids make a lovely shade of algae and the rum eventually melts the blue fruit roll up, which is, IMHO, the best part.

365 million vertebrate animals are killed by U.S. vehicles every year. A million a day. But where Arizona built wildlife crossings with fencing, collisions dropped by up to 90%.

The newest overpass - a 100-foot-wide bridge over I-17 south of Flagstaff - opens this fall. The economic case is just as strong: SR 260's crossings save ~M/year in avoided crash costs.

Animals don't understand roads and never will. But bridges with grass on them? They get those.
