So, I'm going to try getting a fully populated PCB built at #JLCPCB for the first time.

I mean, I know that knock-off vendors are going to be cheaper than American brands, but is it normal to have multiple knock-offs available with prices ranging by more than 10x?

Are these made with slave labor? Are the materials stolen? Are they even real? The datasheet specs are not the same, but I'm not actually sure what the design requirement is, or what the relevant parameters are on the datasheet here.

But, dear #foss folks, if a service like ultra-librarian makes a 37 step video on how to import a symbol/footprint into kicad, it's time to step up and fix that process!

I'm annoyed that I can't just drop the files in a directory and have them show up in the library. I have to close kicad and re-open!?!

Thinking about Waffle House being associated with the Midwest... Nope: almost none in Dakotas Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, or Illinois, and nothing In Northern Indiana, nor Western Pennnsylvania nor New York, which are often considered Midwestern.

So that matches my association of Wafflehouse with the South.

Can't prove anything. But no trained artist would do this on accident.

If AI turns out to be real, we should kill the owners of AI, seize control, and put AI to work making jobs obsolete. I imagine I'd be much happier doing awesome engineering work for free, and on my own terms.

Most of my job is just turning the crank.

I tried a draft of the shape. Attached a circle sketch to the end point with a datum plane, and tried to use AdditivePipe to get it to go brrr...

@aleksorsist Does tge ThunderScope have an FTDI ft600 on it? Did you have any trouble with dropped words? Is the RTL open source?

I've been having a heck of a time, to the point where I'm about to add parity codes to just correct the lossy words. I see nothing wrong in simulation or on the scope.

Hopefully I'll get my order in soon. Ironically the ThunderScope would likely make finding my own problem way easier.

After watching the work on ThunderScope and ngscopeclient on mastodon over the months/years, my work has come around to a cycle of hardware development and I was inspired to finally request that my employer #Shure purchase a Thunderscope for me. They immediately gave me permission. I now just have to figure out how to actually do that on the company dime.

I am such a cheapskate, I have been using a 1998 era TDS220 that I borrowed from a friend in 2020 as my scope.

Hypothetical: If an old lady, like my mom, missed the Olympic figure skating yesterday and wanted to watch it today. How would she go about getting a recording of the full program to watch tonight. If she were to get it from a torrent tracker or something like that for local download, what would be the exact steps should would be taking so I could warn her not to go down that route to avoid violating any copyright laws.

I'm seriously considering connecting my #protonpack telemetry system to it to see how it goes. I have my own visualization and triggering system in python/matplotlib that works quite well, but I don't see why I can't do the same thing with ngscopeclient.
