So, the @fosstodon web client apparently doesn't know how to behave with the server.

I keep getting the client complaining it's been rejected by the server:

> Please retry after 11:30:00 AM.

Rate limiting makes sense. But why, then, does the web client (which was served by Fosstodon, to my browser) not arrive knowing the rate limit and that it should not attempt when there'll be an error response?

Please configure the web client so it doesn't predictably invoke frequent errors.

How do I apply an #ActivityPub archive of my posts from one account, and import them as posts on a different account?

The #Mastodon "export" feature (one of the account Preferences) says:

Okay, once we have this archive ("in ActivityPub format"), what is the "compliant software" to read it in as posts on my Mastodon account?

Howdy, fellow #Debian Developer mentors. I am suddenly in the position of helping an enthusiastic newcomer learn all about maintaining a Debian package.

What can I read, to help me not make so many mistakes nurturing their precious enthusiasm and teaching them well, as they struggle through the mass of learning and experimenting and critique of work?

Of the many TOTP applications, I chose FreeOTP+ because you can easily *transfer* the data to another device.

There is an argument to be made that MFA should be locked to one device. That ignores the fact we all use multiple devices and there is security in being able to authenticate from different devices, and/or easily transition to a new device when needed.

FreeOTP+ lets me export and import the underlying MFA data, letting me generate the same code on a different device when I need to.

Multi-Factor Authentication makes me #ThursdayThankful the major players have not walled us into a proprietary crapware protocol. Instead, they have converged on the open standard TOTP protocol for generating one-time passcodes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_One-time_Password_algorithm
