But this morning there were 3 yellow jacket hornets in the mix, too! They were buzzing at each other, trying to defend "their" sugar water! And also diving at the ants! And the hummingbirds!! The hummingbirds also, in turn, chasing the hornets, in between chasing each other. The ants did their best to rush in and out and get out of the war zone. Somehow, a lot of sugar water ended up getting consumed anyway.
Later in the day, the hornets had left. The hummingbirds and ants seemed relieved.

Drama at the hummingbird feeder this morning! There's often more than one hummingbird with its eyes on those red plastic flowers, which results with diving attacks on each other. Meanwhile the ants are climbing up and down the pole and sometimes blocking the tube. That usually works itself out.

The Stuart Gross Trail takes you to the summit of Great Pond Mountain. Trees block the view at the actual summit, but there are lots of places along the way with slip rock cliffs where you can see forever. The mountain to the left of center is Blue Hill, and the mountains of Mount Desert Island (Acadia National Park) are on the horizon at the left.
Other than the 1000 foot altitude gain and tangled tree roots, it's a pretty easy trail.

It had a wonderful carpet of moss on its big flat top!

But Hilo has her own agenda, which apparently has no convergence with the hummingbird's, and made no attempt to relay the message to me.
But I did go out only a bit later to rectify the situation.

The hummingbird feeder was empty! I left it that way overnight because it was too dark to clean and refill it last night. First thing this morning, a hummingbird came by and noticed the deficiency. It hovered down to eye level with Hilo (a cat) who was crouched on the other side of the screen of the porch, waiting for a chipmunk or squirrel to come by. They stared at each other for quite a while. I understand why the bird thought the cat was in charge of things around here 😹

Anybody else remember Kutar's Tabipero? It's been years and years since I last played it, but even now, sometimes, my brain just starts playing The Horn Song while I'm trying to do something that consists of long and short...

Anyone got recommendations for ticketing platforms? By the time you add vat and fees some of them end up with either a doubled ticket price or no return for the organiser.
Sadly rattling the donations bucket with free tickets isn't enough as people with free tickets are *much* more likely to not show on the day.

Anyone in my area (St Louis, MO) in need of a friendly cat? This guy followed our daughter to the front door last night. I posted his info and have searched missing cats but haven't had any luck. I'll let the post stay up for a few days but I know how these things go. He's been living under cars as that's where he went last night.

We already have 4 cats or I'd gladly give him a home. I'm not sure we'd be the right environment at this point.
