@Xenograg @roberto i would argue using the built in git (type vcs, url ...) support instead of straight path would be slightly better since now you have version control and rollback support in both ends. and it abstracts the system a little more from the project. but yeah it works.
personally im a fan of in-house gitea servers but it works on just flat local repos too.
other neat thing this way is you can cd vendor/whatever/whatever, hack, git push from there, cd ../../../, composer update
