Is there a Firefox shortcut to deselect/defocus everything, so that the cursor keys and space scroll?
mathe.social is a tiny instance of german-language “AI”-promoting maths-adjacent humans and bots and deserves to go away

@rl_dane guess where I am and what I’m about to eat 😸
I don’t understand that HedgeDoc thing.
Just when I thought I did… one user’s block has a red background colour.
OK, what the actual fuck.
I have an access_log on a nōn-public server with:
103.189.178.93/{141.17.79.203} - - [13/Sep/2026:02:19:05 +0000] -:-:IPv4"host.example.org" "GET /api/session/properties HTTP/1.1" 404 298 "-" "metabase-cve-2026-72898-detect/1.0 (benign detection probes only)"
This changed format reads:
103.189.178.93 has sent the HTTP request with an X-Forwarded-For: 141.17.79.203 header.
Okay, who’s that.
103.189.178.93 is… CITY ONLINE MEDIA PRIVATE LTD, ADITYA TRADE CENTER, AMEERPET, Hyderabad, Telangana-500038… okay, so either some spammer, an unsecured network, a residential proxy, or something like that.
But they do include an X-Forwarded-For header. (I’ve seen some scrapers, even, do that… fun.) So, who’s that (and is it plausible)?
141.17.79.203 is…
% Abuse contact for '141.17.0.0 - 141.17.255.255' is 'abuse@dfn.de'
inetnum: 141.17.0.0 - 141.17.255.255

So… either the header is faked… or a German government institute buys “residential proxies” for “‘benign’ (hah!) security scans”, and it’s not the BSI but the office for maritime sea shipping and hydrology! (Or t̲h̲e̲y̲ were taken over or something, of course.)
Either option has… interesting implications.
Wo ist der Torvalds denn schon wieder schief abgebogen?
kallsyms could simply output an ELF object, taking the assembler out of the picture entirely. Nobody, he suggested, would normally want to write the code needed to make kallsyms behave that way but, since an LLM is involved, "the obvious step would be to just ask the little helper bot to switch the whole kallsyms to using libelf-devel and writing an object file directly".
In welcher Welt ist das bitte besser als .incbin (oder demnächst #embed)?
oh ffs is nothing sacred any more?
I wasn’t aware that Pidgin still exists, hadn’t for years, and then they go and do this. 👍🏼
I’ve so had it with slop machine users playing the “victim” role here.
You use the fashtech. You are directly condoning, and giving actors reason for continuing, intellectual theft, land grabs, burning the planet, robbing us of water, killing off small projects’ servers by DDoS scraping, creating an addicted population that can’t think, ruining the planet with building even more polluting power plants, mining of rare elements, putting digital asbestos everywhere, etc. and you directly support and condone the eso-fascist, haters of humanity, eugenicist TESCREAL ideology, as well as systematic exploitation of humans that borders on actual slavery (not even sure on which side of the border…) (and your “AI” is even pretty much a digital slave) and all the other ethical problems with it. You directly condone and support ignoring consent to produce your plagiates, and to produce deep fakes, which are also used to manipulate elections in favour of neonazis. You are complicit in polluting our commons. And you do it knowingly. While there is a psychological link to hard drugs, you are informed, and yet you still argue in favour of, advocate for, and use the slop extruder.
You, “AI” user, are not the victim here.

(just one example of these, but the most recent and most Fedi one I had at hand)
Thread with more resources on that topic: https://toot.mirbsd.org/@mirabilos/statuses/01KNQD9RNZM1Z2A61AZHG857MP
edited to add appropriate illustration by @prahou (which you can buy stickers from at his redbubble), and to point out that this applies globally, of course, not just on Fedi, and add a link
This is so ridiculous I cannot even.

**TL;DR: **The copyright issue is complex, and still undecided worldwide AFAIK. But I do not see it specifically as a threat.
Given the amount of LLM use by corporations, I personally however very much doubt that the decision would be that "result generated by LLM must follow copyrights of all the parts it was trained on". Because:
- Firstly, because LLMs are unable to produce list of all the sources that contributed to the result
I stopped reading there.
“Your honour, I am unable to produce list of all the sources I torrented, so I need not follow copyright.” is so going to fly.
@len you might wish to know that Creative Commons does not consider -NC- a barrier from using for “AI” slop 🤮
I’ve published interpretation guidelines for those places where I still have CC licences, to try and prevent that.
Oh poo, someone from dot social reported me because I told an “AI” apologist (admitting this on his own profile) to fuck off when re reply-bro’d a thread from one of my contacts.
To this I only have to say: AI apologetists can fuck off.
@lanodan @dalias @ska btw the slop user referred to above, and with a less bloomed label in the OP, had the nerve to today be cited by @distrowatch as saying:
expressed regret on the results of the vote, writing: "On a very personal note, I regret that the winning option does not acknowledge all the legitimate concerns around AI: environmental impact, copyright and licensing uncertainty, the health of Free Software communities, and the strain of aggressive scraping on the open web."
The sheer nerve of that has-been!
And tech news are obviously part of the problem.
so, we have a winner, it seems: Proposal E
I actually am rather surprised while at the same time being not surprised: this is the option that says "keep the status quo but call whatever you do 'responsible'". A very #Debian thing, indeed.
It even mentions that slop is probably breaking copyright (while at the same time carefully wording to not even actually state that).
(edited to add: if you look at the Graphviz result, you’ll see that, after this option, the pro-slop ones have landed over the pro-life ones; this (it’s preferential voting) makes me sad)
So, what does that mean?
No rage-quitting, at least. (This is very much in the interest of the users.) But also no improvement. But also no official sanctioning of slop.
I cannot believe I am saying this, but I’m actually rooting for… Helene Fischer, the GEMA, and the german Medienanstalten… to save us, by getting courts to recognise these issues.
I cannot believe I am writing the above. This timeline is bizarre.
The bubble is also already bursting, but not fast enough, which is raising the collateral damage each minute it has not yet burst. (Here I mean financial, trust, etc. but for #FOSS specifically, it also means that LLM-extruded digital asbestos gets added to more and more codebasēs in growing quantities, which will be hard to recover from.)
What I would like to know is why such an important topic has, what, under 40% voting participation. smh
(the preliminary automated report by the voting tool does not give the numbers; the project secretary will do so within days, so this is a guesstimate)
Practically, what can we do?
Pretty much only this:
Ride out trixie without rsyslog (and without backports) until the end of its #ELTS, grudgingly installing kernel security updates. Avoid LPNs (npm, composer, pip, cargo, go get, etc.) at all cost (this is not new but now more important than ever). Use third-party repos only after manually checking for slop policies for both the repo and the softwares contained within (I had to split my own repo, I added a non-free component for ensloppified tomcat9 but kept the last one from before in the component with the main policy).
Check out unensloppified OSes as alternatives in parallel (seems to have only NetBSD as contender, among OSes capable of running similar enough use cases). Prepare to switch to unensloppified OS at any time, around 2035 at the latest. Do not hope that by then all the slop will be reverted from core system components (if it is, I will be pleasantly surprised, but right now, #Linux is dying).
Reduce computers and compute in your life.
And, if you can, fight this on useful levels. Not copyright licences, they ignore these and consent anyway. But: On a political level, up to and including guillotines, if you must. On an educational level, with friends, family, and even pupils/students. The younger generations are not lost. Make a worthwhile future, including human art, craft, crocheting, knitting, music, painting, woodworking, what have you. Doesn’t matter if it’s not good: it’s yours. Read books (from before 2020 or so). Go out, make train trips, cycle, garden, including fruit and vegetables. Care for your cats and other loved ones. And say no to fashtech.
