This pathetic fucker can't handle the idea that Ukraine's president is 1000x the leader he is. He's rather suck Putin's dick than admit he's fucked up American foreign policy and the global economy for the next 50 years due to his own ego.

“Billionaires, “ the teacher said “were a cognitohazard of the late dirt ages. In that time it was normal to force humans to perform labour for four to five decades before being permitted a period of limited rest known as retirement. The billionaire class found ways to steal even the limited resources remaining to retired victims for themselves.”

A hand went up. “Miss, why did they do it?”

“You can ask; today we will meet one of these ancient monsters”

A nervous titter. “A simulation—right?”

“Oh no, a corpsicle. After the Reset they were frozen and periodically reanimated to remind us all never again. Everyone take a stick from the rack and make sure it is sharp.”

Many years ago I used to work on a Cobol-based application that ran over an 80x25 green screen terminal. People running 30 or 40 users on a 486 PC running SCO Unix hooked up to a multi-port serial card.

We'd never have tolerated the amount of waiting between actions or screens that is now considered absolutely normal on web-based cloud-hosted applications.

Weird how things change.

I've warned before that any FOSS project incorporating AI output is doing so at their peril.

Previously people leaned on a federal circuit ruling that was *declined to be taken up by the supreme court* interpreting it as a free-for-all to LLM license-wash any project in translation, or really to incorporate any such materials and they would be public domain.

But that doesn't mean we have an answer! We've yet to see!

Annnnnnnnnd: I think we're likely to have that perspective upended soon.

The third circuit issued a recent ruling in the *opposite direction* of the previously well cited federal ruling, that AI training on copyrighted material is NOT fair use: https://www.courthousenews.com/ai-training-of-copyrighted-material-not-fair-use-third-circuit/

Annnnndddddd.... with a bunch of people trying to make LLM-generated decompilation replacements for Adobe's entire suite, we're likely to suddenly see corporations rear up angrily.

Just wait till someone tries to vibewash a Nintendo game decompilation. Hey, what do you think is gonna happen?

Every member of the Trump administration belongs before a judge at the ICC.

They’re live-streaming the execution of the person they think they can get away with doing that to first. It’s a test. If they can do that, they’ll expand the margins of permission.

the USA is a terrorist state, and it therefore cannot tolerate justice

GenAI is eating everything, across every industry. It's wealth transfer to a small number of techbros.

.@mainmatter is looking for a Rust expert in the US (or timezones with at least 4-5h overlap with the east coast) for a medium term project (ca. 3 months). You'll be working with our team (Europe-based) and the client (US-based) directly.

Reach out here if you're interested!

AI will 'take care' of us.

In our newest blog post, @sebastian explores the potential security risks that occur if PHP tools don't consider coding agents in addition to human readers of output. Read more: https://thephp.foundation/blog/2026/10/08/your-tool-has-a-new-reader/

Why, dear god why must it always be pulling teeth to configure PHPStorm to use tools inside a container?

It's 2026. There is no excuse for how complicated this nonsense is.

Don't point me at the "autodiscovery and self-configure" page. It's wrong and worthless. I've tried many times.

I love IntelliJ/PHPStorm when it works, but... damn I don't want to think about how much time I've lost to this across many projects.

The extremes are also interesting: #PHP has 2 dirty commits, LLVM has 2.2k.
I can’t check now, but I want to know what those 2 PHP commits are. :thisisfine:

This is the programming future I dread, with stats to show slop since 2026-07-01:

"Almost every popular language is now substantially developed using LLMs. Particularly notable are C# and Ruby (both approximately one third of recent commits) and Julia (over half!). The languages that stand out in retaining their humanity are Chicken Scheme, Perl, Lua, Clojure, and – perhaps surprisingly for a project so closely associated with Oracle, a company who have gone all-in on hyperscale data centres and “AI” in everything – Java."
