This #HomeAssistant add on is amazing. You give it #LiDAR data (free from many government sites including UK) and it creates a 3D representation of your building and a projection of shadows based on sun position and and trees, buildings etc around you.
Despite complaints from security agencies and the #ISC, this #UKLabour government continue to do government business on insecure platforms, creating security risks and failing to ensure proper records are kept and can be scrutinized.

Is it true that "no relay" plugs are suitable for monitoring energy use in washing machine, fridge freezer, tumble drier and so on (ie inductive loads)?

Any recommendation for #SelfHosting a web app, useable on mobile as well as desktop for two people to collaborate making notes with basic WYSIWYG text formatting?
The purpose is to help us maintain notes for #renovation and #refurbishment of our home. We're mostly apart so I think it would help being able to edit a list of documents. Say one per room, and for things like lighting, heating, #HomeAutomation etc.

Looking for advice on remote access for my #Proxmox based #HomeLab again. I'm trying to understand reverse proxy servers and choose something that minimises admin while keeping things secure/self hosted:
Main options seem:
- #Caddy seems favourite, but no GUI.
- #Nginx easier to set up and has GUI.
I think the idea is to spin one of these up in a VM, configured with a domain I own and a #DDNS but not sure.
A #Wireguard server also seems popular but am not seeing that while searching.

I studied some German at school but it isn't up to reading this so thank goodness for the translate button. But I still tend to read some of the German t00ts to see if I can get the gist. French same, though they are rare. And Italian because it sounds lovely, probably why I watch #Blanca, well partly🤣
Can anyone help me with a Dell #OptiPlex?
Boot starts Windows setup (which I don't want), but pressing F2 during boot seems to be invoking a video mode that my very old HDMI monitor doesn't support.
It has an HDMI signal but the display shows "NO SUPPORT", unlike if I just let it boot to the Windows installer which displays correctly.
I'm trying to get to the BIOS so I can boot from a USB with #Proxmox installer and then setup #HomeAssistant using the Px script.

I continue to enjoy creating useful code the way I always have:
- understand the problem and goals
- evaluate ways to solve the problem and achieve the goals
- try out ideas in abstract
- create = figure out ways to implement ideas
- try to build a solution, and iterate until I have a good enough solution
- learn from the above process in ways that feed into this process in future, in ways that few appreciate
#LLMs cannot do that, and IME don't make this more efficient.

Apparently spawning a child process/app that outlives the parent (on Windows and Linux/MacOS) in #Rust is hard. Forking would work if it was cross platform.
If you know a good way to do this please share.
For now the best way seems to be to use a cross-platform #daemonization library (I think I found one), and then have the parent run a command to start the daemon.
Seems wildly over the top to have my CLI program start the server it wants to talk to if it isn't already running. 🤔 #RustLang
