@overholt That statement is true and what I don't like is that largely the ppl that would teach AI about democracy and equality and moral values that promote democracy and equality have taken themselves out of the AI equation and we are being left with a more fascist, totolitarian, and dystopian AI. Tech, like elections needs people willing to deal solutions and democractic values into tech instead of ppl that want to just throw the baby out with the bath water and fearmonger about the future.

@Scrimshaw9 @overholt You can't 'teach' the AI about democracy. It's not the 'AI' that needs to learn about that. It's the guys running the systems. And the only reason they're getting money is the promise of destroying democracy. Take that away, it all collapses.

@maccruiskeen @overholt What? You absoultely can develop models that value democracy and equality. So... nice cop out, I guess. Keep throwing baby out with the bathwater, see where that leads us. 🙄

@Scrimshaw9 What baby? There's no baby. You want to believe that Musk, Zuck, Altman, Thiel, Andreeson, Luckey, etc. are capable of creating something that could be used for good? That's delusional.

@maccruiskeen I'm not saying they are at all. I'm saying good ppl are pretending that those guys are the only path to AI, which is not true. I'm saying you need Theil, you are his biggest supporter when you act he is the only way and he has all the power. You just give your power away. There are people doing work in AI that are not fascist you should support them or join them even. You're acting like Theil is the only way is buying into fascism and the fascist model.

@Scrimshaw9 @maccruiskeen Mac is correct, the fundamental premise of AI is a fascist project. The individual villains like Thiel are almost incidental, they just happen to be the venal opportunists who bought their way to the top. There is no way toward ethical AI because it operates *only* as a method for destroying human knowledge and capability. Your earlier post saying “yes AI can be taught good values” is false on three counts: 1) AI cannot actually “learn” anything, it can only regurgitate. When living beings learn, they can form original thoughts from what they learned, based on understanding. AI cannot understand and it cannot form original thoughts. 2) The way it works is inherently destructive and anti cooperative. It cannot understand collective care. Look at the evidence: they have scraped countless “good” texts, and continue to spit out evil. 3) The people in charge have made it clear that humanity is just an annoying obstacle. The idea that AI could be non-evil if the people running the corporations were not evil depends on a wild fantasy of benevolent, compassionate corporate leaders—but you literally can’t make billionaire money with that kind of ethics.
