The rounding and resulting screen estate waste of various elements is a mistake. Conformant to the zeitgeist, yes, but is the recent UI fad actually good? Hell no, it hasn't been since Windows 8 came out with whatever they called Windows Modern at the time.
The alt and show/hide overlays on images (@memo ++) and the wasteful rounding-cropping of images (@tsrono ++) and quotes is just too much.
Honestly, with the state of software development and IT in general, I wish I had another craft I could pursue and survive on, but I don't.
It's one thing developing yourself into a corner with specialising in Perl, but it's an entirely different tier of fucked up when your entire industry is just off their rockers.
Man I wish I had gone to study chemistry instead.

The EU is microsoftmaxxing and offering the 234958729th Maybe Later option in case it might become a Yes.
And I have no words for how disappointed and deeply hurt I am by a Union I thought was a good place.
I keep thinking it might do me good to go to #YapcJapan this november, because, you know, networking.
(Also it might do me good to be in Japan again. Just as a general thing.)
But at the same time I'm pretty sure — can't check the timetable because fortee hates EU users — basically everything will be in Japanese (including said networking opportunity), and my Japanese is still pretty basic.
Also, well, the flight is like 800~1000 EUR and maybe that money has a better place elsewhere.
I wonder if @yvanspijk ever delved into it. Now that I ran across a post in Trending again, I know who to tag XD

I love how the record industry that *checks notes* swats teenagers for napstering an album, just says "fuck copyright, fuck all the artists".
Burn this shit to the ground.
It kinda bothers me that lepény in Hungarian is apparently of unknown origin, while everyone else has the *hlaibaz derived loaf, Leib/Laib, chleb, lev, leipä, etc.
And they feel awfully similar.
With one language ( #Perl ) under your belt with any reasonable amount of experience, and a few others (also not particularly fashionable or "modern" ones, such as Ruby or Python) that you know so-so and definitely not at "senior level" — what exactly can you do at forty-whatever years old?
Anything I start to work on *now* won't be pro tier for years. Anything I could have started working on 1.5 years ago still wouldn't be pro tier. And all my jobs hadn't been good at giving me extra skills.
Hey fedi, if you have a #Perl job in EU (pref. de, nl, nordics) or E/SE Asia (pref. jp, sg) please speak up. Willing and able to move (in a few months) and I speak hu/en/de/nl want to learn ja; experienced with Perl and PostgreSQL but also have rusty and "needs guidance and some tutoring" knowledge in Ruby and Python... been wanting to get into Rust but the opportunity never came.

This is what the European Commission wants for the EU when it wants to turn us into an "AI continent", whatever the fuck that means.
I'm still finding it remarkable (remarkably stupid), how invested greens (especially in Germany) are in being anti-nuclear, while they lack the same vitriol against coal and other fossil fuel power plants.
And we'd be in a much better place in terms of climate change, had they not gone all-in on the anti-nuclear propaganda.

And somebody decided to print this crap.
Haven't bothered to look into this yet (never been more than a user on the fedi and its precursors (hi bang group tags of identica!)) — how much of the #Mastodon privacy model is AP's fault, and how much is it Mastodon? (thinking about the often criticised followers-only post level that for example doesn't take into account the thread; or some other privacy levels not present in current Mastodon) Can something like Pixelfed, Loops or Lemmy have different privacy constructs respected across AP?
Thing that just bit me because #Perl is not quite timtoady sometimes:
```
my $foo = pop split(/bla/, $str);
```
(can't pop scalar in modern Perl and this construct puts split into scalar context I guess and that's not fun for pop)
(wanted to avoid the ugly `(...)[-1]` construct)
Guess I'll go and bother @oalders too, can't figure out which of the many metacpan github projects might be the right one to look for an issue about this (or to create one)
RE: https://mastodon.social/@phl/116481885386262225
Now it looks like we're missing Test-MockModule entirely. Not listed on https://metacpan.org/author/GFRANKS, exists in backpan author folder and in https://www.cpan.org/authors/id/G/GF/GFRANKS/ but haven't been able to install it with cpm all day...
Looks like it's working again.
RE: https://mastodon.energy/@Sustainable2050/116440915047958376
What the fuck is it with European countries doing this kind of thing again and again?
