So #Revolut suffered a major outage today, due to a #Google #Cloud region failing because of a power outage.
The amount of comments I've read and articles from the general media, is embarrassing: we don't understand what are the limitations of technologies.
Was it a major problem? Yes.
Will they improve? Time will tell.
Worthy of ripping off the contract because of that? You should switch service each time there is a major outage, until you have none.
So #OpenAI allegedly had a mole problem?
I have questions.
- do we even believe what they say?
- you wrap a pendrive in toilet paper!?
- who has CCTV behind TVs!?
It feels like the investigation was done by following chatgpt instructions as well...
For the past two weeks #GoogleCloud represented 95% of malicious traffic on this #Mastoson instance.
Primarily searching for .env files. Then it started with URL injection and attempts of resource enumeration. Every event, had its User-Agent spoofing some #AI bot. All of them.
We banned around a 1k unique IPs from GC around the globe in 2 weeks, the number keeps growing. At this point, banning entire GC networks will be the next path, but: how do others handle this, I wonder?
So for the couple of past months I've noticed that my #android phones are misbehaving when trying to return to the home screen: no matter how fast I press it, it doesn't work. When insisting, it opens #GeminiAI
Wouldn't that be funny, if they slowed down the reception of the Home button? I mean... I'm just kidding, #Google wouldn't get so petty to force you into their #AI assistant, right? 😂
I still can't understand how nobody in the media wrote one simple thing about #AI going "rogue".
Article and media keep talking about it like there was no way of stopping what is happening.
It can't propagate for fuck's sake! Shut down the telco room, and it stops. Stop the instances agents are running on, and it stops.
The cannons are their #datacenters not just some abstract ghost-like entity running throughout the wires.

I love this post (@oblomov thanks for boosting it).
I love the part where it says: "Their owners aren’t necessarily trying to produce bad design. They’re trying to produce something recognizably theirs, and there’s a difference"
I still remember the times of Tripod and GeoCities: you had your own space, and it did feel special. Truly. Times where you listed your website in Internet directories like DMOZ.
And it's nice to see how some are getting back to this.
This is useless to explain to politicians, but hey... why not saying it anyways!?
#datacenter facilities being built are not going to create new jobs for the community.
It feels like the government is starting to promise a new El Dorado.
So, apparently for the last couple of days our mastodon instance is being subject to massive automated user registrations: does anyone else have a similar problem? (just out of curiosity)
So apparently #enshittification is not a thing. Said by someone very reliable and socially engaged like #a16z
Everything is fine!
Recently I saw a comment from someone who worked on the #React version of the start menu in that garbage pile named #Windows11
You overlook performance and resources usage over "progress", so the application may suck hard just to use a cool framework of sorts
In my opinion, progress could be having performing applications using less resources, hence using less #energy.
So my previous toot stands as: we are making no progress, just adding more whipped cream on a cake made of mud.
But hey! AI!
The very same people who let out an unsupervised #AI attack website and businesses without acknowledging until they can't hide it, are the same people who are pushing over to create new power plants.
Imagine a gas or (worse) nuclear power plant managed with the same "oopsie" approach.
Technology doesn't scare me too much. It's how people with too much of it who scares the fuck out of me.
Just a loud thought: if #art and #creativity aren't that important or valuable, why are big tech giants (and everybody else) looting book and contents?
Because to me it looks like, wasn't it for literature and art in all forms, you wouldn't have your precious stocastic sychophant parrots.
RE: https://infosec.exchange/@BleepingComputer/117189181693887448
Just finished a call with a Customer whose computer was screwed up AGAIN after a windows update.
Nothing really big. They couldn't sign digitally documents. Reinstalling the software and rebooting the system solved the problem.
But this is ridiculous, every update is: "what will break this time?"
I wish we could live longer, as a generation. More than so, the current regulators.
So they would have to face the faces and eyes of those who will pay for "our" choices. To face the consequences of the lack of standing towards those who are stealing and ruining entire societies.
This timeline is becoming exhausting.
Shopping is making me feel very confused... (as seen on allegro.pl website) while looking for a 12V power supply...
I imagine someone prompting for "a power supply for a domestic router"
The AI (being an intelligent one) said: "here is the image of a router, with a power supply not connected to the power supply".
The seller: perfect!
One of the big problems right now, specifically for #content platforms, is that we lack of TRUE independent auditor and assessors. The big five are paid by corps, so their opinion is meaningless.
In my opinion, at least in the #EU, the @EU_Commission should consider instituting an auditing organism that is not biased by the big 5. Skilled in system audit and data analysis.
I wonder what kind of mess would emerge.
Apart from being interesting under a technical perspective, this @SANSInstituteOfficial article points out something else.
Intuition is something a human can develop, while an LLM will just keep testing.
A positive result does not necessarily turn into a success.
Which brings down one big consideration: using a tool without knowledge builds no value.
