#LanguageTool went paid, seems like they're pivoting to AI. Compared to Grammarly, I was quite happy with LanguageTool, so this was disappointing news.

However, it made me aware of another grammar extension, “Harper.” Which is a younger #grammar extension with a focus on privacy and performance.

I emailed the vet because I did a quickie weigh in on both cats, and while Ouzo’s weight is steady, Raki has gone from 11 pounds at his last appointment six months ago to 13 now. (That was after we got him from emaciated to healthy). The vet agreed that was probably gaining too fast/getting a little chubby, so “reduce his food by 10-20%.” He’s just starting to recover from food anxiety so I’m starting at the low end of this and reducing by 1/8 of a can per day. Poor baby.

I weighed the cats today. Nothing fancy, just the “weigh self while holding cat, weigh self without cat, do math” method.

Raki is up to 13 pounds! He was 9 and change when we took him in!
Ouzo came to 12.7 pounds, which is about the same as he’s been. They don’t like when he loses weight because of his FIV.

Ouzo still looks bigger, but it’s entirely fluffy fur compared to sleek fur. Raki has taken to climbing on us at night and boy, we’re feeling those pounds from him.

After fixing an issue that prevented my #homelab laptop from putting the screen to sleep. #HomeAssistant shows it now consumes about 10% less power. For some reason LightDM was the cause, and switching to GDM3 resolved it.

Had dinner with my parents today, who just came home from visiting my stepmother’s extended family in France.

Stepmother: I don’t even know what time it is.
Dad: 6:47 here. 12:47 in France. So, lunchtime!
Me: Noooo it’s midnight there, not noon.
Dad: Oh. Right.
Stepmother: Yeah that explains why I’m so tired.

One of the more amusing #Connecticut developments is that a Redditor has spent the last week renaming and redrawing the town lines based on comments. We're on like version 6 of this new map.

Ouzo does a good job of trying to teach Raki how to be good. Early on it involved a lot of “MOOOM RAKI IS ON THE COUNTER” type of meowing. More recently, when Raki gets yelled at for scratching the couch, Ouzo will go use the scratching post while staring directly at Raki.

This morning Raki got shooed away from trying to pry open the bedside table drawer while I was sleeping.

Ouzo, to show him the “correct” way to wake me up, promptly pushed my glasses off the bedside table.

Connecticut 2600 is back! It was great to see most of the old gang at Counter Weight Brewing. Good beer, good pizza, good conversation, and a TV with ESPN8: The Ocho only helped. (Popdarts? Slippery stairs? All that’s missing is dodgeball.)

I only had an account for the #Framework forum and I got the email. Guess it affects both.

One positive about this incident is Framework did disclose the incident rather fast—the Framework email went out the same day they became aware of it.

Honestly I don’t know what he thought I meant when I said he used ChatGPT, but it was really just a bunch of business speak word salad, which I could see at a glance.

Boss: Did A submit his development plan?
Me: Let me see. He did ask me a few weeks ago if it was required for everyone, if he had to do it.
Boss: ::inhales::
Me: I know, I know. Yes, here it is. ::glances over it:: He definitely used ChatGPT for this.
Boss: That’s fine. We’re all supposed to be using ChatGPT. Send me a copy?

Later:
Boss: Lisa I am looking at A’s plan and it is MEANINGLESS
Me: Weird, ChatGPT producing something meaningless? You don’t say.

This laptop is also a bit of an oddity. It's the 2012 Samsung gaming laptop, their first gaming laptop. For a 2012 laptop it already has USB 3.0 (SS) ports.

For storage it has both an SD card reader and a CD tray.

And for monitors, it has VGA, HDMI, and Display Port. I guess 2012 was a weird time. 😆

I looked at home lab servers, like the mini racks @geerlingguy likes to talk about. I wasn't ready to spend $800+ and possibly run into resource limits on raspberry pis.

Instead I repurposed this 15 year old gaming laptop. I'm using Cloudflare's tunneling client to expose the servers on domains I own. Working pretty good so far, and it cost nothing to setup.

This will get annoying, but with rising hosting costs this will save enough to buy a mini rack in < 2 years.
