Not suspicious at all that 6 months ago the Internet was full of people shouting "#Alberta should separate from #Canada! That's what everybody in Alberta wants"
and today the Internet is full of people shouting "the vast majority of votes are being cast in favour of staying in Canada" - ie if you're #remain you don't need bother taking the time to go vote.
Not suspicious at all!
Don't be fooled - apathy from the sensible majority is how the UK ended up screwing themselves over #Brexit

I would really like to see a lot more natural intelligence. #NoAI

"...the #BCNDP has a record and is trying to run on it, but the message is really just to maintain the status quo, with more of the same in the foreseeable future.

"That is objectively a small-C conservative position..."

The #BCGreens "...plans make them the only left-wing party in the race..."

J'ai déjà voté pour le Parti Vert!

#NewWestminster went very right wing tonight. Not a good feeling for me after many years of what I thought was solid progressive leadership. I guess the New West "Progressives" will find out what running a city is like.

I cleaned up a bunch of leaf litter yesterday using an ingenious tool called a RAKE. More efficient than a leaf blower, quiet, pollution-free, and probably less effort overall than waving a long tube back and forth (and back and forth, etc).

On digital sovereignty:

"Imagine that we removed all the chatbots from Canada, or the UK, or the EU, or the USA. What would fall down?

"Nothing important."

Unlike if you removed Microsoft 365.

Think of all the money wasted on medical masks when what people really need is N95 or better respirators. #covid #influenza

Dear #Fediverse, I quote-tooted a post that someone shared from an account that I don't follow. Except that after I quote-tooted the post, the account was added to my followed list. Is that working as designed or a bug? (I don't want to follow that account and have unfollowed.)

Lorne Doerkson's B.C. Conservatives promise massive cut to services that everyone needs and probably a giant hole in the budget as well. #BCPoli

The #BCGreens bold proposal makes Eby's modest proposal look like what it is -- too little too late. Greens would have helped him pass a wealth tax two years ago if the #BCNDP were serious and not just making campaign promises (which they don't keep). #BCPoli

I'm old enough to remember when the PQ was a left-leaning party. Now it's roads not trains, eh? This government will not last long.

What has gone wrong with a person who threatens to silence, harm, or even kill another person? Why do we tolerate this kind of behaviour? What can we do to make it completely unacceptable again?

"Unfortunately, however, those laws are full of loopholes. And so, in 2010, Stephen Harper’s Conservative government had no trouble permitting the takeover of Canada’s largest newspaper chain — with more than 100 media outlets, including leading dailies like the Vancouver Sun and Ottawa Citizen — by a company called Postmedia, even though Postmedia was owned by several U.S. hedge funds." #CDNPoli https://rabble.ca/columnists/for-the-sake-of-our-democracy-american-hedge-funds-should-be-banned-from-owning-canadian-newspapers/

"And despite Canadian laws meant to limit foreign ownership in domestic media, Postmedia is 98% owned by U.S. hedge funds. Technically, this should not be allowed under the Investment Canada Act, which caps foreign ownership of Canadian media companies at 20%. Yet, Postmedia has somehow circumvented these restrictions, raising serious questions about how such a loophole was permitted to persist." #CDNPoli https://canadianreturnee.substack.com/p/the-quiet-capture-of-canadian-media

I was brought up never to mindlessly follow the crowd. I try to be conscious about everything I do, and I don't care what's trendy or hip. I'm especially averse to corporations telling me what to do. So no, I don't use #LLMs, and I don't know why anyone truly needs to. https://ionathan.ch/2026/03/18/LLMs.html

Two days after return from Toronto to Vancouver, spouse and I contracted what seems to be H3N2, one of the influenza A viruses. We're old. It's nasty and lingering. I wish we'd had shots earlier.

Except for Oliver Sacks, I have never read a single author who understands that there are people without a mind's eye. They just assume everyone is like them and can visualize things. More of us cannot than they realize. #aphantasia
