Big miss out posting risqué TikTok’s with her boyfriend, returning to the house and realising daddy follows her too

Felt like I did nothing all day, until I realised I smoked beeves, learned how to patch (and then patched) my favourite jeans, including relearning how to se a sewing machine, before turning smoked beeves into excellent chilli*.

so what if I also watched a bunch of cricket?

*WITH BEANS

Late one night, my patching lagging, logs unread and firewall sagging,
Found a poem in a stylesheet. Odd, I thought, but nothing more.

The look on 20-year-old-me's face when he finds out that 50-year-old-me is joining the Butlerian Jihad on the side of the Catholic Pope.

I've shared this before (and had some dudebro have a sook about it) so let's share it again because Men, you CAN call out your friends for being creepy.

A conversation I overheard at a cafe:
Man 1: "Yeah the physio says I'm still stiff in the back"
Man 2: "I'd be stiff too if she had her hands all over me"
Man 1: "Mate. No."
Man 2 looks ashamed.

Saw a video the other night of a man saying "Hey, kill the vibe. Your friend making gross jokes? Kill the vibe. Call him out"

Chaps! Blokes! Men! CALL HIM OUT.

this one's from tumblr not bluesky obvs but it's fine

Sleep apnoeia is no fun. The risk of dying is quite obviously shit, of course. The comorbidity with snoring brings further risk (spousally induced concussion), but the massive joy killer is the constant tiredness. The first thing you notice when you get treated is the spring in your step; you are having sleep that actually refreshes. It might be a while later until you introspect about the dreams. Maybe you never remembered your dreams much, or—thanks to interrupted REM phase—you never even had any. Worse, maybe your dreams were all tinged with the psychic equivalent of gasping for breath. But gradually you realise you are now having epic, creative, extended dreams. If you concentrate you can remember them, if you practice you find you can direct your dreaming toward solving creative hurdles in your day life. By your third year on Normal Breathing™ you may discover you can make them come true. The first time you murder a public figure with your dreamsword you feel guilty, and wonder if it was just coincidence. You test yourself; you try to cause some dayworld events that are unambiguously your doing and not mere happenstance. Please. if you are, like me, reaching this level, join a support group. We need our power tempered by compassion, plus it saves on doubling up the murdering.

I have been hunting around the house for the past 16hours, trying to find The Dead Thing.
Inside. Outside. All around in the park.

Finally found it whilst showering.

It’s my fkn knee.

How important is “fit” when hiring?

I've got a candidate who, in all respects but one, is a perfect fit. Basically a unicorn for our weird tech stack.

But lord is he dull. Near as I can tell he has no interests outside of work. Just a bland white middle aged guy.

The rest of the team is moderately diverse, and interesting, and have active internal lives.

LOOK AT THIS OWL! HE IS SO UPSETTY!!!

There are 2 baby penguins who are staying in a pen in the hall. They're also going to be ambassador birds, so all the keepers are encouraged to pick them up and cuddle them multiple times a day to get them used to people.

BEANS DOES NOT LIKE THE BABY PENGUINS.

instead of "autistic masking" it should be called cloaking. á la star trek. it eats a lot of power, you can't use all your systems while you're doing it, and you only ever need it to get through enemy territory alive

Well, fuck. I don’t have ME/CFS, but the brain fog?

Yeah. That I’ve got.

I used to have words. So many words.

An absolute banger. Such good writing that I am literally angry because Iris made some of the points I have been struggling to make for months, and she made them much better than I was going to.

Read it, read the whole thing, make time to actually absorb it and not just skim.

I’m hiring again! Are you or do you know a network engineer?
Do you like fixing shit, building shit, and building shit to fix shit?

I have a 100+ site network with no automation, and I need a really solid engineer who can figure out what needs doing and get ‘er done.

Ideally you’ll know Mikrotik, Cambium, Ruckus, Ubiquiti, and how they go together. Bonus points if you’ve got solid ISP routing/switching, cos that’s a current gap.

Location: fully remote, anywhere in ANZ.
