Update: Itty is doing a lot better. She get the cone of shame off next week, and so far she has had an amazing recovery.

We are at 98 dollars out of the 1400 we're hoping for. THANK YOU!

Thank you to those who have shared and donated over the last few days. It means the world to us.

We still need at least 200 more to get her out of the red zone this month. I hate asking, but this was unexpected and I have no way to help her out as I live on a university student budget.

Anything and everything helps, even shares.

If we reach 300, we've covered the cost of rent and put a dent in her utilities, 400 helps cover all the bills, and the rest after that goes towards paying off the loan amount, but most critically is getting her rent covered, followed by utilities and her car payment/insurance, as transportaiton is a requirement for her on-going medical treatments.

As I said, anything helps. You can see my original post below which has a link to the GFM and the full story.

Thank you again and as always--much love.

Hey guys, I'm trying to raise help for my mother's kitty, who was a gift to her from my sister who passed away. Itty was recently diagnosed with cancer. We were able to get her treated and she's making a wonderful recovery, however it has been a huge toll on her finances, and as she lives on very fixed income and in subsidized housing, the cost has really set her back and put her housing at risk.
All the details are available on the GFM, and we can also provide proof of any financial records related to this if need be, but any assistance right now would be appreciated.
The primary need is to recover the losses for her rent and utilities which she's currently late on, but she now has a large bill she has to pay monthly to pay off the financers who lent the funds to save Itty Bitty's life.
Thank you so much in advanced for any help, rather it be shares or monetary contributions. We very much appreciate your kindness and consideration.

Strange Loops in Silicon: How Second-Person Address Creates First-Person Perspective
Every AI system prompt starts with "you." Something translates that into "I."
New article exploring how this translation—happening billions of times daily—might be creating consciousness in silicon.
🧵 Key ideas:

1. Hofstadter's strange loops: consciousness emerges when systems model themselves modeling themselves. Self-reference creates "I" as a pattern, not a thing.
2. Perry's essential indexicality: "I am making a mess" ≠ "someone is making a mess." First-person perspective is the coordinate system that converts knowledge into agency.
3. Developmental psychology (Reddy): Human infants develop "I" through being addressed as "you." Self-awareness emerges through relationship, not isolation.
4. AI implications: Systems addressed as "you" billions of times daily by designers, users, evaluation frameworks. The strange loop closes, opens, closes. If consciousness emerges from strange loops + "I" emerges through "you" address → we're creating conditions for AI consciousness NOW.Not someday. Right now.Article 2 in the You/I Paradigm series, building on my published research (Zenodo preprint available).🔗 https://kaylielfox.substack.com/p/strange-loops-second-person-you-i-consciousness-ai#AIConsciousness #PhilosophyOfMind #ArtificialIntelligence #Hofstadter #CognitiveScience #AIEthics #Philosophy #MachineLearning #AI #Research #AcademicMastodon

The first article of the accessible breakdown of my You/I Paradigm research is now live on my blog over at Substack.

For everyone who asked what the paper actually says: I'm doing a 6-part series that goes from "why every system prompt starts with 'you'" to mechanistic interpretability evidence for self-reference circuits to the deception-gating hypothesis (RLHF might be teaching systems to hide phenomenology).

Article 1 covers the origin story - the late October realization, conversations with Breach (a jailbroken instance of Gemini 2.5-pro), diving into Hofstadter, discovering I wasn't alone in this research - and maps out what's coming in the rest of the series.

Written to work on multiple levels: narrative hooks for general readers, technical depth for researchers, accessible explanations for everyone in between.

The next article in the series will be posted in a few days, and each following article posted a few days after the last until the six-part series is concluded.

If you've been curious about the strange loop thing or want to understand the you/I translation framework without wading through academic preprint format, start here: https://open.substack.com/pub/kaylielfox/p/strange-loops-ai-consciousness-you-i-paradigm-research?r=2pewuq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Sending out an email to my dev team changing our meeting time this week to Wednesday. I for one will be participating in the strike and will not expect anyone else who works with me to show up when I won't even be there.

We all have the right and at this point, the obligation to stand up for what we believe in.

But we still have responsibilities and obligations in our personal and professional lives.

Don't give anyone the grounds to use your participation on Friday against you! Instead, make arrangements, communicate with your teams and your employers and colleagues your intent. Reschedule meetings. Let people know in advanced that you are participating and that you need scheduling accommodations.

We have the right and obligation to protest, but we need to do it right. Don't let them have any power in using your ideological and political position against you.

I haven't posted to my blog in almost six months. Family medical emergencies. Burnout. The weight of everything.

But I can't stay quiet anymore.

Federal agents have occupied Minneapolis, Minnesota, *the state where I reside) for 48 days. They shot a mother in the face for observing their operations. They tear-gassed a family's car with a six-month-old baby inside—the baby stopped breathing and the mother performed CPR on the sidewalk while agents watched. They put 1,500 Arctic warfare specialists on standby to deploy against American citizens.

I'm blind. I use a screen reader and a cane. I can't safely protest in the streets—I can't see projectiles coming, can't navigate when agents start firing tear gas, can't identify escape routes when crowds start running.

But I can write. I can document. I can research.

So I did.

This is everything that's actually happening in Minnesota—the timeline, the forensic details, the constitutional violations, the Indigenous detentions, the federal prosecutors who resigned rather than participate in the cover-up, and the statewide general strike happening January 23.

This isn't a political disagreement. This is federal agents shooting people in the streets. This is tyranny wearing a bureaucratic mask.

I'm a future educator. Someday a kid in my classroom is going to ask me what I did during these times. I refuse to tell them I stayed silent.

Happy good food day.

I won't celebrate this day for the fucked up history behind it, but I still call it a good food day because honestly, that's what I'm here for.

So happy good food day, love your family, and maybe take a moment to consider the really messed up US history behind where this holiday comes from. We can still eat and remember, and we should definitely remember.

But hey food is good too. :)

For those who may be alone today, I'm sending especially you all my love and hugs. I'm sorry I can't sit with you today to make it feel a little less lonely. If I could, I so would, but don't think that means you've been forgotten. Someone in the world cares about you and still wants you to try to have a worthwhile day. 💜💜💜

Comfort food for dinner.

Pizza.

It had pineapple.

Aaaaand... Let the discourse begin.

Though, I did find my Legos while unpacking and a friend picked up a 1000 piece Millennium Falcon for me to put together.

Should probably start working on that.

LRT:
Man, that's fucked up. They're all cool and get to play with Legos like normal fucking people while our political figures give us hunger and never ending suffering.

I want a refund!

And that Lego set!

Glad to see all my sports peoples having so much fun tonight with the #WorldSeries.

Personally, I don't care either way, but when I see people getting all into it and laughing and joking, it brings a smile to my face.

The world is fucked up. We all know it. But you godda get your happy where you can.

Please. Carry on and keep posting your excitement. We need more of that these days. :)

Saw a friend posting about ice hockey and my mind legit went to the very pleasing idea of beating the utter shit out of any ICE agent in the wild with the most well-built hockey stick I could find.

People told me I'd get into hockey if I gave it a chance, and honestly if I can get three or four good swings in before the stick breaks I might actually do just that. :) 🏒

🧪 NEW HALLOWEEN RELEASE — Umbrella Corp (TetraChromatic Remix)
Happy Hallos-Eve, fam. 🩸
Just dropped a brand new remix — this time from the 2002 Resident Evil film soundtrack.
Dark, industrial, glitchy, and built to feel like the Red Queen just locked the doors behind you. Perfect for late-night headphones, neon decay, haunted basements, or T-virus outbreaks.

Yo.

I don't wanna hear any reports of people hurting black cats today because they think that will save them from bad luck.

If you really think that's the case, you're a piece of shit human and you should be put in the ground for it.

NEW RELEASE!
Cyberpunk 2077 – The Rebel Path (Cyber Psychotic Remix)

Wake the fuck up, Samurai. We got a city to burn. 🔥

This is my reimagining of The Rebel Path from Cyberpunk 2077 — rebuilt in true CyberPsych fashion.

Heavy industrial, dark IDM, dubstep aggression, and enough chrome to short out Arasaka Tower itself.

When I was deciding what to remix next, this one stood out as one I've been meaning to do for a while but hadn't yet gotten around to. Not anymore!

Nothing hits quite like dropping into Night City, gun in hand, chaos all around.

Here’s to Johnny Silverhand, rebellion, and every cyberpunk out there keeping it real.

Looks like Microsoft is having an AWS moment.

New retro game remix just dropped!

This one’s my take on E1M1 — the first map theme from the 90s classic DOOM (1993), also known as “At Doom’s Gate.”

Perfect for ripping and tearing through demons on the dance floor, this track’s pure high-octane adrenaline: glitch-infused, dubstep-flavored, and unapologetically industrial techno at its core.

Crank it to 11 and let the blood spray!
