    @michal I don't understand why people like delta chat so much. It seems a bit clumsy to me the frankenstein email for instant messaging. An if you host mail on gmail or outlook, than what is the point. I'd rather use #XMPP, a platform that makes sense

    @jaj @michal it is a tradeoff. Indeed, email is not an optimal choice as a carrier, but it is the last protocol of that kind which survived in overall usage without becoming a walled garden (yet).

    It's a matter of taste.

    Delta has a somewhat centralized development model, i.e. all client (have to) use the same underlying framework. Writing an independent client from scratch is almost impossible, I've heard.

    In contrast, #Jabber/#XMPP is a diverse #ecosystem, grown over more than 27 years, applied to various use cases (even #IoT), an #openStandard by #IETF and #XSF.

    The former is easier and faster to develop for, but also has limitations. I personally prefer the latter.
