@gunstick @signalapp They don't run a map service. You would have to share your live location from an online map service & send the link to someone through Signal. There are a few end to end encrypted programs for this purpose but I don't know if any of them are good.

I don't think you need a map service. Just send regularly the GPS coords and the recieving client puts that on a map.
@gunstick @signalapp Matrix doesn't do it at all. No one hosting Matrix servers hosts any maps. Some Matrix clients allow you to share a point on a map, but it just opens a built in map view & then pastes a geo: link into the text box like Signal does.
@jackemled @signalapp today I used element client to share a live location into a matrix group chat. And that worked.
So don't tell me it is not working.
Signal just needs to take the same approach.
@gunstick @signalapp That must be new. I stopped using Matrix because it was too unstable, especially when using Element as the client.
That means your homeserver must be hosting a small map service or Element automatically uses an external one unrelated to Matrix. Using an external service within the app is probably not compatible with Signal's threat model. You would have to use a standalone live location sharing program & share a hyperlink from it to the Signal app.
@gunstick @signalapp haven't looked too closely at them, but maybe what you want is Find Family or OwnTracks. There are a bunch of services for exactly this purpose. You'll just have to find the one you like the most.
