@charlescmann.bsky.social Here, near Baltimore, there used to be dozens in my backyard. Then it went down to two or three. Best guess is new neighbors put down lawn chemicals when they moved in. A guy who used to run a nursery told me this kills the larvae. The neighbors stopped doing that so we are seeing a slow buildup in firefly numbers the last couple years. But it will be a while before they come back to what they used to be, I think.
