as someone who wrote blog post for Mainstream Labour on leaving Xitter, I'll answer to @carolecadwalla.bsky.social (although she won't see it bc I don't bridge to Bluesky):

    1) regulating platform != having presence there. by that logic, DCMS should have an account on 4chan. (and X is pretty much like 4chan now)

    2) see p.1

    3) yes, and she can make such decisions.

    4) no it's not. but whether you like it or not, FB is second most used platform in UK according to Ofcom.

Carole Cadwalladr on Twitter quote posting Lisa Nandy's decision to leave Xitter:

1) It’s *literally* your job to regulate this platform.

2) If you can’t, what does that mean? Tell us.

3) The Dept of Culture is not ‘your’ department, it’s ours. You’re its temporary custodian

5) But Facebook is ok? Really?

so while I'd love for UK gov't to abandon all big tech platforms, I'm also a realist and I understand that starting point should be getting into Mastodon or at least Bluesky properly.

I also find it ironic that, while I am grateful she posted about russia's attack on Ukraine and her pro-Ukraine stance, she complains about Bluesky being shit. did you really think that Bluesky, which is 50% centralised platform at best, fares significantly better?
