  @wendinoakland @KimPerales Im not a swifty but I was pleased to find out, she has always been pretty good about donating big after each show in the area of the show. I really liked that she risked alienating a huge chunk of her fan base by coming out against tRump and encouraging people to vote Dem even when her parents & managers told her not to.

  @amiserabilist @wendinoakland @KimPerales If they pay their taxes and also give without asking to be lionized for it or if they use their visibility to bring awareness to something that needs it I’m OK. The ones I don’t like are the tax cheats who slap their name on a wing of a hospital etc and use it for primarily their own good. For example, I love all the work Dolly Parton has done quietly for decades to eradicate illiteracy.

  @Pineywoozle @wendinoakland @KimPerales Trump kind of forced her hand. I don’t expect every superstar to be political. That’s not their skill or career choice, but I was relieved when she made that statement.

  Also, knowing her shows, her opening acts are not shy about politics. So, I was pretty sure she wasn’t Republican. OTOH, she’s also a brilliant marketer, and she knows her demographic. It could be because she knows what makes money.

  It's always wise to question the motivation of people when there's a lot of money on the line. But I get the impression that Swift is genuinely sincere in her politics and her charity. She seems to be one of the rare few wealthy people who try to do good.

  I am prepared to be disappointed, but I hope that doesn't happen.

  I remember around the 1989 album white supremacists had started to lionize her. She had nothing to do with it, but it did make me nervous. Then my daughter went to a concert and said BLM was all over the place.

  @bruce @Extra_Special_Carbon @wendinoakland @KimPerales I have a friend who’s a swifty so I get exposed to a lot more of this than I normally would and her statements supporting women and democracy and giving back to the community have been surprisingly consistent from the time that she had almost no fan base outside her parents and was just a little 11 year-old kid trying to make it in Nashville.

Risking alienating half the people who pay to buy tickets to see you isn’t good marketing. He didn’t force her hand then. He pulled his AI garbage in August. She spoke out about that then and said specifically who was voting for.
