I think not meeting ReformUK on their own ground is really important. Farage et al keep making outrageous announcements and both the left and centre keep getting outraged - and make themselves, and the media, complicit in creating the impression that politics is all about the right's culture wars. It isn't. Immigration is not in fact a significant issue at all - but while everybody is talking about that they're not talking about what the left is really interested in, and has a lot to say about: exploitative work, rents and house prices, not being able to see a doctor or dentist, how Big Oil broke the weather...
