    @vicgrinberg That's such a good point. We also know the famous saying "Trust is a fragile thing - hard to earn, easy to lose." Given trust is clearly such a valuable currency in all professional fields and our personal lives, it's so strange to see so many people gamble with it.

    I think partly this has to do with the fact that the most valuable trust for a community is a generalized trust, i.e. not in a person you know but in people you don't know, which facilitates one-off interactions. It's often more a trust in systems or norms or institutions rather than in people. At the same time, the cost of breaking that trust is often borne by everyone instead of the person breaking it, especially when systems, norms and institutions are unstable.
