Good morning from #Area51, a garden allotment in Northeast Connecticut, US. Out early (5AM) to weed before the heat. Rained overnight so already close to 100% humidity even before the sun clears the treeline. Nice moon though. Song sparrows, robin, a warbling vireo, catbird, swallows. It’s quite lovely and peaceful.

@nuwagaba2 I rent the space every year, but as long as I pay the fee, it is mine. I grow crops like onions, beans, kale, squashes, peas, greens, but also have five kinds of berry bushes and many many flowers. Most are perennial and don’t require planting every year. Many herbs too and medicinal plants.

You're doing a really amazing work. I have never seen the garden as beautiful and organized as yours. Are the costs of renting in your country as high as the ones in Uganda?
@nuwagaba2 it’s fairly inexpensive to me, $25 per year for a 20 ft by 30 ft plot. The land is owned by the local university that grows hay and corn nearby. My plot is a triple, so I pay $75 per year. In our climate, I can grow and harvest about 8 months of the year, but only herbs and cold season vegetables on the edges months. Growers share plants, seeds, tools and I give away many flowers. There are many immigrants from around the world who grow food native to them, too.
