@SunnJax that is a lovely display of milkweed! Hopefully full of caterpillars

@SunnJax You wouldn't believe how many years I have been working to get milkweeds started growing next to my backyard pond even when collecting seed pods from multiple locations over the years. But some of them finally took hold a few years back, and after several years they finally produced their own seed pods last year. This year I have about a dozen plants which already flowered, now I'm just waiting for the monarchs to discover them...

@SunnJax So I *think* the trick is the seeds need to be flooded for a time in the early Spring. I successfully started a whole tray of seeds, and then discovered milkweeds do not survive transplanting the seedlings (maybe a much larger pot would work?). Still not exactly sure how I got lucky with the first one in the ground.

Once you can get one started it will spread, about doubling every year, but it still took mine 4-5 years of flowering before the first seed pod appeared.

@SunnJax I collected mine from ditches along my drive home, and had some given to me from other people's yards. It's just that for a weed, they are incredibly difficult to intentionally grow.

Another plant I collected from ditches was cattails... They are literally everywhere, and yet when I tried moving some to my pond, all that survived were bull rushes, and those were very stubborn to remove once they got going. Maybe I can find some seeds this Fall and try again.
