@PicardTips Tell that to the instructor on our dinghy one October on the Blackwater estuary.
He had a choice of (a) drifting into the bank and the "shame" of being towed off by the rescue boat, which was a few yards away, or (b) gybing, out of "selfish pride", which tipped us all into the water.
OK, so the rescue boat got us out pretty quickly, but (despite the gear we'd been given to wear) being so cold that I couldn't breathe was not fun at all.
