@simontatham I had a job years ago testing network devices, where I kept running into the problem that other people on the team were using deprecated tools and getting inaccurate results. For instance, I had an argument with some engineers who insisted an interface could only have one IPv4 address. ip tools allowed assigning more, but ifconfig (which was already deprecated) did not.
