    The heat we feel on land is only the visible part of the system.
    The real driver is the ocean, and when global sea surface temperatures break late June records, the entire climate engine shifts.
    Local anomalies stop being local.
    They become expressions of a planetary baseline that has moved.
    Understanding the ocean is understanding the heat.

    @wolfgangcramer Water has high thermal mass. If the water is getting warmer that means there is a *lot* of energy being absorbed by it. It also means getting rid of it is going to be hard also.
