The blurb says it's a companion to the book While we were getting high, so I wondered if that might contain the background to the selection. Do you have that book?
@hl I've flicked through it in a shop and it's very much a photobook rather than an interesting story, sadly. The CD edition of that compilation has some notes and a paragraph or two about each song but isn't really the narrative you'd like either.
John Harris has done a good book on the topic linked to New Labour, if you're in the mood for something in that vein.
