Kai Lentit has done something interesting here.

Rather than an ironic video about programming languages or IT corporate environments, he has interviewed the actual CEO of an #AI company - Victor Ripabelli, CEO of Synthesia, which produces AI videos given just a few minimal prompts.

Kai baited and subtly mocked Victor without him even realizing.

But besides the irony, to me this video is a disturbing window into the psychotic mind of many of these AI CEOs.

The way he dismisses and even laughs about the problem of content creators losing their jobs is troubling.

The way he treats humans who help him create his product (“the actors that we need to train our models just come in, get paid for it and leave”) outlines sociopatic traits.

But the most outraging part is the one at 6:20, when he shares his thoughts about AI regulation in the #EU.

They put 300 Ph.D’s who’ve never been outside of university in a room. And then they ask them to make a report of all the things that could go wrong, as if they could predict the future. And then we use that as regulation. Which is very stupid.

He then proceeds with complaining about his meetings in Brussels, with “people who carried their reports on printed paper, not even on computers“.

As if everyone who talks to a tech CEO is supposed to be a tech guru - which outlines a deep lack of respect towards people in specialities different than his, and a distaste for people who see his product from other perspectives.

It’s exactly because of people like Victor Ripabelli, who have no clue and no concerns about ethics, job losses, social biases and discrimination, misuse of their products and rights of anyone other than him, that AI needs regulators.

Preventing a narcissistic jerk from shaping the future of content creation without any oversight is just common sense.
