If this review of the AI industry's downsides is long, that's because there are so many of them.

I have read all of these points elsewhere, but the article does bring them all together fairly effectively. What I haven't read is the alternative we wish to see for the internet. Or ideas on how to get there. Some nostalgia for Web 1.0, some calls for a moratorium on new data centres (which will just get built elsewhere). If the "information superhighway" is a dystopia, what is the bicycle and public transport equivalent in this analogy?
We need an alternative program, but its not easy because it requires defeating some of the biggest monopolies in the capitalist world. But we can do it. As always, capital can't function without the global working class.
