Join the Dead Link Club! An evening of internet archaeology, collective memory and speculation about digital afterlives.

Digital death and afterlife are topics that surround us everywhere: from platform shutdowns, websites disappearing and discontinued services, to Meta’s patents for death bots, zombie and dead internet theories, online memorials or grief rituals for obsolete tech. There is talk about the urgency of archiving, of keeping sources alive, of preserving the memories of marginalized voices and communities. At the same time, there are demands for the right to be forgotten, for opacity and the need to hide in the dark forests.

We are intrigued by the collectivizing energy of grieving and take seriously the pain and disorientation that can come with lost online connections, but we are not interested in nostalgia. Therefore, we will examine the concrete conditions that lead to these deaths: what economic, political and technological contexts make platforms and services come to die? What communities do they leave behind, what do they transform into and what disappears with them?

Join the Dead Link Club for its first session on Tuesday, 30 June at 7 pm at panke.gallery to find out!

Bring a defunct website, a deleted subreddit or a service that stopped responding, and let’s run a dead link autopsy together. We’ll pick some links per session and investigate.

Promotional poster on a solid teal background. Near the top, the words “DEAD LINK” appear in large, dark teal, pixelated letters, partially blending into the background. Centered in the image is a large gravestone-shaped object rendered in grey stone with a rough, weathered texture. The gravestone is designed with stepped, pixel-like edges reminiscent of early computer graphics. The letters “RIP” are carved into its center in a blocky pixel font. A small broken stone fragment lies on the lower right side of the gravestone, suggesting damage or decay. Near the bottom left, the word “CLUE” appears in the same dark teal pixelated style as the title above, partially fading into the background. In the lower right corner, dark grey text reads “@panke.gallery” and beneath it “Tuesday 30th June 2026”. The overall aesthetic combines retro digital imagery, internet culture references, and the visual language of a cemetery monument.
Promotional poster featuring a close-up view of a grey stone surface with a rough, cracked texture. Carved deeply into the stone in a pixelated, video game-style typeface is the text: “AN EVENING OF INTERNET ARCHAEOLOGY, COLLECTIVE MEMORY AND SPECULATION ABOUT DIGITAL AFTERLIVES.” The letters appear engraved into the stone and cast subtle shadows, emphasizing their depth. At the bottom left, white serif text reads “Dead Link Club”. At the bottom right, white serif text reads “30th June 7pm @panke.gallery”. The entire image uses shades of grey and resembles an engraved monument or memorial plaque, reinforcing themes of digital history, preservation, loss, and remembrance.
