@Mrfunkedude I guess it just depends on how you view concept of competition and what niche you think the fediverse fills. Mastodon has a similar experience to X. And I personally am trying to use it in a way that replaces traditional social media, so for my purposes they are in competition. But I see what you're saying about letting the userbase slowly trickle in. It'll probably lead to a more consistent experience.

@TheLegendOfThrill IS the experience really similar to X though?

A few years ago when Twitter became X and a million people flooded in here, the most common response for anyone that stayed longer than a week was "Wow. I didn't know it could be like this."

To me, and from my own experiences when I was on Twitter, I understood what they meant right away. It IS different here. There's no rat race. No clout. No pressure to post more. No being treated like you were a commodity rather than a user.

The functionalities may be similar, but to me, the differences between the two are night and day.

Anyway, you get my point I'm sure. I don't think we're really that dissimilar in our desires for the platform.

@Mrfunkedude no we're not. They're not really similar in the ways that matter, but if you're trying to explain it to someone who has no idea what the fediverse is, you will probably compare Mastodon to Twitter. But yes I think we're in general agreement. Thanks for contributing to this place being cool.
