This is a frustratingly limited viewpoint. I don't disagree that, currently, renewables have a dependency on fossil fuels for production, but that doesn't mean it has to be that way.
There's no reason we can't have electric mining equipment, electric refining equipment, and electric transportation.
"Solar isn't the answer" might be strictly true, but it's not like any serious person actually thinks that if we just have enough solar panels we'll solve the climate crisis. It's part of a bigger picture, and if the author did think that solar alone would solve everything, well they're clearly not a serious person, or at least dangerously naive.
