@agreeable_landfall @spaf What I'm somewhat surprised is that so far I haven't seen anyone remark so publicly. Not even John Oliver did a "sounded better in the original German" joke.

You don't need to be a scholar of history to realize the similarities. In Germany, you really don't, we made sure of that. As part of middle school, history class focuses for at least 6 months on the time span 1933-1945. Sometimes there's more in high school. Every German under the age of 80 had those lessons.

Yeah, and then some American Nazi comes and tells us (Austrian btw, and guess what, our schools do talk even more about the evils of the 1930s than the evils of the Austrian Empire), that Donald is not a fascist because …

Sorry guys, bronzer abuse does not protect ones from being a fascist dictator wannabe. Trust us, these history lesson flashbacks don't happen randomly for us.

And no, even his starting dementia does not help you, this time around he has a whole team to implement his ideas from the start. Besides, being sick was one of the reasons that drove Adolf into starting WWII, so he could still manage it while being healthy enough.

    In a way it's funny.

Because of historical facts, as it happens, on average every f%cking German/Austrian school pupil knows more about Fascism/Nazis than the average citizen of most other nationalities on this planet. But they literally try to tell us, when this has been basically beat into us in school.

I'm not trying to tell an American how to fry a pickle or a Snickers bar. These are truly American delicacies. Who am I to tell them?

@henryk @agreeable_landfall @spaf Every German under 80 may have had these lessons, but unfortunately an altogether too large percentage of them doesn't seem to have realised that they were intended as a warning. Looking at the results of recent elections also over here makes me feel both sad and angry because it shows that Fascism was never gone, it was always hiding behind a "conservative" facade, and now it has again become confident enough to show its face.
