It's been a damned minute since I posted here. I've been kind of busy dealing with this and that project, the largest and most demanding of which is to produce a local-first self-hosted LLM environment.

I know that will turn a lot of people off who are my 'peers' on this site, but here's the thing you have to understand; it isn't going away. When we get to that truth, then we can move on to questions like 1) what is useful about it 2) what is definitely not useful about it 3) how to get the most out of it without spreading yourself all over the internet 4) how to avoid enriching the asshats and 5 how to not use BIG AI to do it (well, mostly).

I've been doing other interesting things too, like discovering that my BP meds increase my risk of skin cancer by 30%, and installing commercial refrigeration in my garage (it was only a few hundred bucks more per unit, is more efficient, and is twice as big as anything we could get of a more residential orientation), and hey, a first for me: I actually fixed a laptop. Every laptop I have attempted to work on previously just, well, I destroyed them.

This one, a 17" dell i7, I replaced it's internal battery. Bricked it. Threw it across the room ontho the shag carpet where I actually stepped on it a couple of times; and as I went to take the battery out to return it, I said to myself 'see if it comes on one last time', and I did, it did, and it's been charging, booting up reliably and holding a charge ever since.

I'm seeing some concern that #Europe is not prepared for a full-on confrontation with the #USA. True enough, but not as important as one might think. On December 7th, 1941, #Japan was ready for war; the #USA was not. They caught us flatfooted and asleep at the switch. It didn't make any difference in the end, as the more astute among the Japanese knew it wouldn't.

And the flip side of #Europe's lack of preparation is that the #USA is now much closer than #Europe, in both economic and military terms, to the maximum power of which it is ultimately capable. Or, put another way, #Europe has much more potential to become yet more powerful than the #USA does.

Think how many INDIVIDUAL European nations (not counting #Russia) have, throughout history, shaken the world all by themselves. And now the #Trumpezoids propose to take on ALL of them together?

That's just like a #Trumpezoid, to mistake circumspect restraint for weakness.

Impeach the regime

Clearly my posting frequency took a dive over the latter part of last week and the weekend.

Having not had to direct so much focus to healthcare, and generally feeling much better physically, I have been engaged in clearing some projects around the house off the to-do list.

Saturday was 'restock the kitchen' day, and Sunday was 'build the missus a desk day', which establishes her presence in the radio room (for her PC and work computer.

There is considerable work-from-home time in her future, as she recuperates from the total knee replacement surgeries she is to undergo.

So it looks like I got a couple days to focus on more personal projects, and while I don't yet have anything that actually helps me publish anything to a website, I did actually get a good deal of foundational work completed on the static website builder tool on which I am working.

That, and further organization/cleanup in the garage, so I can figure out what kind of mess to make out there next.

MY Real problem y'all is I just want to write.

The thing I am reaching for and not finding on the hugo shelf is not especially complex; I just essentially want multiple posting 'sections'. Hugo typically provides a single such section.

That is ALL it provides in the simplest case; there are some themes that admit of a second sort of posting 'section' but it is not arranged as a time series, but rather a collection of curated pages.

I mean, I know the flexibility is there, it's just that the cost in complexity is too high.

I want to be able to do a post in the style of a status update -- something short form; but also something more formal, appropriate for essays, short stories, poetry. Ideally I'd be able to present these 'sections' individually. That is to say, as collections of like material.

I am aware that I can accomplish something similar by just having a fat timeline with all the posts tagged for organization; but that really isn't what I want at all. I don't want the similar thing; I want the actual thing.
