Which is why I say that #language is just fancy grunting.

Just learned the #Dutch phrase, "Ik weet het veel" which I would have thought meant "I know a lot" but actually means "I don't know at all.".

We look up at the Moon and see one side facing us. I wonder how history would have changed if we had looked up at a moon that was constantly turning. Would we recognize that it was a sphere? Would we then realize that we too were on a sphere? Would it have catapulted our scientific knowledge by centuries?

Or would we have just made up some fairy tale about why the Moon changes.

There's no golden ages, though several have been bronzed.

So Amazon is cutting off the ability of all it's ereaders made before 2012 from connecting to their library service, essentially bricking them going forward.

This seems like an environmental tragedy, and possibly a breach of contract. I paid for these devices, took good care of them, and had the expectation of decades of use.

Even with horrible acid paper, books can easily last 50 years. These devices could easily last another 10.

Hmm. Fosstodon sent me a notice that they were blocking a server, holm.community, without explaining why. Looking at the site, there doesn't seem to be anything radically different going on over there.

Anyone know why certain servers are blocked? A technical issue? Political? Personal?
