Right. So I will restart OpenDarwin but not in the way you'd think.

I'm going to have to redo it all from scratch basically. Turns out they don't handle it in the way I thought they did.

They just pulled dependencies from Apple when they needed them, not just kept a copy to work on.

I will mostly likely not be calling this OpenDarwin either for fear of some copyright issues or something.

To get this working, I'll need to compile XNU 517, system_cmds and sh to get a bootable system I think.

for an experiment, started writing a graphics stack thing using IOKit in C for OpenDarwin 6.6.2 because I didn't want to try and get X11 working. not much right now, but at least it works and displays red to our framebuffer!

I did it!

backed up my iBook G3's 30GB HDD to another newer drive in case it failed on me as it is 24~ years old.

I also got it running QEMU, faster than the actual hardware with a bigger clock speed and more RAM.

(700~ -> 900MHz, 256 -> 512MB)

It last woke up on the iBook G3, now it's woken up in a QEMU PPC VM running on Apple Silicon.

I'm really impressed that it just worked.

While we’re not pleased with the ESA’s behavior (obviously), we’ve received reports of serious threats toward individuals. This behavior does not reflect SKG’s values and anyone found to be doing this will be banned immediately.

I believe all hardware should be open to user modification in hardware and software.

If a manufacturer stops providing software support/updates for a device, I should be able to run my own code on it with no barriers so I can support it myself with my own kernel/OS or another community maintained system.

I should also be able to upgrade it with newer parts over time without having to own a soldering iron or have serialisation on the parts.

We need control over our legally bought devices.

I download a lot from Gutenberg, also from a free site where a lot of people have donated converted epub from DRM books (as have I). Has many in several languages too.
E-book prices have become almost as expensive as hard copies.
DRM can be removed with a Calibre ap, then you can convert to epub.
I no longer buy e-books from you-know-where because everything I want I've found on the free site.

So, my uni women's rowing club decided to restrict membership to cis women only. In response, a new "open" division was created that anyone can compete in.

Lots of women left to join the open division instead, and now the women's club are complaining about losing their best rowers.
