What I'm listening to today: "No!", Vim
A bleeps and beats Amiga Future Composer track from 1992 that challenges the "chiptune" boundary in an interesting way: the samples (the part that sound non-chiptune) are being played back by the Amiga's sample chip ("chiptune"), but the chiptune-sounding squarewaves are being generated realtime by the CPU ("not chiptune"). So is this "tracker" music or "chiptune" music? Anyway, it's pretty fun.

European digital ID wallets to be used to access services does the exact opposite of breaking the big tech monopoly and advancing European sovereignty.
"Users who want the autonomy to use operating systems without pre-installed Google software ... are forced to use Google software, if they want to use the wallet," says Danny Lämmerhirt, Senior researcher at Waag Futurelab.
If this isn't monopolisation, then what is?

Whenever I see the word "intelligence" in a headline
I replace it in my mind with the word "charisma"
They're both poorly defined aggregates of properties of a person that are often referred to collectively
And it helps me to see through the way that we've been trained to see intelligence as equivalent to moral status or worth
All sugar
What a gift, for there to be a Miyazaki/Ghibli movie you still haven't seen in 2026… I just saw "Laputa" for the first time… it was like somebody made a whole new Ghibli movie just for me
I think I understand how to use systemd but I am not actually certain I know how to use systemd
Netscape broken image icon but repaired kintsugi style
@mcc@mastodon.social GTK+ client-side decorations, too.
Oh, you use a window border theme? You need a larger window border to be able to resize windows? You wanted to tell at a glance which window has focus? You wanted to see the window title in the same place every time so you could easily read it? No you don't, those are badwrong things to want.
Computers were nice; I miss them
As I get older, two things happen
1. My eyesight gets worse
2. Visual information is being progressively removed from user interfaces to a greater and greater degree, such that I need better eyesight to use the same apps to the same level of capability
Also, apps now frequently auto-update and move things around, just in case I wanted to learn to use the app by simply memorizing the positions of icons
