There’s another aspect you should bear in mind: the hashtags aren’t just shared, but are also published on pages such as this: tags.pub/profile/dsgvo. These pages are designed to encourage crawlers to scan them. This means that search engines and AI systems can help themselves freely.

in the last fedi-e2ee WG meeting, Evan was dismissive of metadata-leakage concerns, even rudely shutting down interjections with "let me finish". even after a number of natural pauses that could be interpreted as "finishing".

o.O Aside from creating a friction point to slow down troll accounts, you're also making it so that you can't just fall asleep and then wake up to your instance being flooded by a zerg rush of Nazis deciding to do a raid unless moderation/administration is compromised in some way or there's a hack or something.
Otherwise outside of getting accounts on other instances they could run a DDoS which is annoying but from the user end that'd still be better than having a shitstorm of assholes and their weaponized bot accounts.
