So my neighbor from Pennsylvania laughed at the phrase “holy buckets”, and is convinced that’s a Minnesota-ism. Similar meaning to “holy shit” without the swears, or just “wow” or whatnot.

If you are from outside the Midwest, do people say that??

Ideas for things to work on live during weekend streams? (Specifically working on MAKING these things during a stream.)

- Tic-80 cookbook: Small videos showing how to implement one feature at a time.

- OOP C++ shorts - I've made videos on C++ concepts in under 3 minutes for my first level C++ course, now for the OOP course?

- C++ Text Adventure creator: An editor to set up rooms, items, etc. but totally CLI.

- Make open source version of 90s Math Blaster.

If you have an Android, and have ever used an app not from the official app store, (over the internet, fdroid, etc...) this concerns you.

The Google app lock down is scheduled for Sep 30.

Well Progress has been going well lately on my Wallpaper Pack.

It has a bunch of references which is why I haven't shown much Work in Progress on it.

I think by the end of it it will be the best wallpaper yet though. I am doing a lot of things I hadn't really tried as much in other wallpapers in a fun way.

I have a bunch of characters in the wallpaper with 1 a WIP and 2 more planned. I still need to polish the rest of it once the characters are done too.

On this #CanadaDay I'm struck by how few Americans know their government and the Russians are involved in a psyop in Alberta to incite a separatist movement. The goal: force a populist referendum to leave #Canada and join the #USA.

Albertans are being swayed by glitzy YouTube influencer videos, many of which are #AI generated abroad,, to suggest their lives would be better in the US. You know, Florida mansions, control over immigration, pristine health care, high valued US dollar, and other grass is greener lies. Very #Brexit-esque, Cambridge Analytica playbook.

As the US under this administration seeks to capture and manipulate oil internationally, Hormuz and Venezsudentenland are not enough. They are coming for the Canadian oil fields not with arms, but with algorithmically amplified #disinformation and millions of corrupt dollars to influence an election in their favor. For Russia, cracking Canada means destabilizing yet another Western democracy in the international illiberal project, plus Canada recently signed an agreement to provide drones to the #Ukraine.

How can you help?

I wish I could say call your Congressional Rep, and that might still work in some districts. However, this is digital guerilla warfare, and we still don't have good innoculation against it.

Any information you can get out there on social media --about what it is really like to live in the US (maybe more about how actually likely it is to own a mansion or paying for your health care!), about how disinformation campaigns work, about what happened to democracies that voted to shoot themselves in the face based on peddled lies and are now dealing with the consequences (hello #UK), would help. Please tag Alberta separatism to ensure the message gets out.

And tell your friends. People need to know this is going on.

you can write a lot more if you don't give a shit about how good it is. woah, WOAH, hold on. hear me out, people. sure, it's human to want to make good things. everytime you make something, that thing will land along some gaussian-distributed "goodness" curve. it seems methodologically wise to cleave that distribution some distance above the average, so that the products you reveal to the world are those which pass your standards. it's simple quality assurance. and yeah, sure, that works. it's rare for our sense-of-taste to be better than our skills, so why not apply one to the other? but let me say: your sense-of-taste might be better than your skill, but is your sense-of-skill better than your taste? are you correctly assessing your own quality? you've never, in your life, *not* been smelling yourself (excluding some extraneous circumstances like anosmia or scuba-diving). you're always sitting in your own stink. but you know who isn't sitting in your stink? every other stinkin' person on this giant ball. we love new smells—it's only human to be a stinky stinkster sniffer—and that applies to writing, too. your tired old stink is someone else's fresh new whiff. even those works that plunk down limply in the centre of that gaussian-curve will carry your stench, and for that they get a boost in value. let us smell ya, you freak. put it out there. publish your slop so we can roll in it like giddy little piglets. don't hold out on us.

Well I don't know if it is just me or not, but Itch.io is being slow. I guess because of tons of people browsing the Summer Sale.

That reminds me though I should check my Itch.io rev split to give them a little more money since I don't desperately need money.

I am in the process now of checking whether games are on Itch.io from my Steam Wishlist and I am finding way too many games that have an Itch.io demo, but no full release.

I am now if I see a dev have a demo on Itch.io, but not the full game I am just removing them from my Wishlist entirely because I don't like the ditching of Itch.io as a platform. Some good games on there, but Itch.io deserves better IMO.

I did discover Tunic is on Itch.io though.

I played the demo of Petal Runner which was fun. It takes place in a world of Tamagatchi like pets called HanaPets and has a charming story with what I played. I have added it to my wishlist.

I also saw a game called Pronoun Palace about a bookworm-esque roguelike in a world dystopian world where pronouns are policed. Looks really good from the video I saw. I really love the price too. What better price for a game about policing language than $19.84 lol.

The plot continues. I managed to edit the Steam Layout, but now CrossCode just gets A and B confused making it impossible to navigate menus. It says it has controller support, but I am struggling A LOT to get my controller to work this time. I forget what controller I used last time I played I assume Switch Pro Controller, but 8bitdo SN30 Pro really does not want to use the right buttons apparently. (Other games have been fine on this)

Who knows maybe proton is messing with it too.

I don't know if the CrossCode devs are on Mastodon, but I am currently trying to get my Controller to work the way I want to play CrossCode leading up to playing the DLC.

Now this is a plea to EVERY game dev. If you have controller support please allow players to switch which button is A and B. I have Nintendo Muscle Memory, so I much prefer A being the right button and B being down if that makes sense. Not being able to change it other than jumping through hoops on Steam is a hassle.

Well I finished Kingdoms of the Dump last night.

It was overall a really fun game though once you get to the very end the game starts to feel incomplete. The devs said back in January that the game is supposed to be getting a big update, so I don't know the situation on that, but I enjoyed what there is of the game and really hope the game gets updated.

Well for an indie game update I have been thoroughly enjoying Kingdoms of the Dump lately. It has some bugs here and there, but I think the game is very charming. It has some balance problems with some of the characters IMO, but the game has been fun to play. I am at the point in the game where I only have the final battle left, but I have free reign to explore the world.

I have also been playing Squeakross while eating and have been having a lot of fun.

@LukaTheMouse I forgot to mention too that it needs a phone or PC for setting up Wifi and a PC for changing the watch face. I still haven't messed with the firmware other than the watch face.

I got my Watchy Smart Watch Kit in the mail yesterday and have been making it and replacing the watch face on it since.

It is a really interesting watch so far though I don't know how to modify the firmware past just the watch faces.

Either way I would recommend it if you just need a watch to track steps and want something more FOSS and/or Private.

The Firmware and even the hardware itself is Open Source though I don't know if there is a better term for open hardware. @LukaTheMouse
