OK, am I just incredibly #electronics ignorant or... Are power banks a huge scam?
I'm trying to understand why we can't just buy rechargable 18650 enclosures that have ports for charging our devices on them?
That way, when the cells die, the rest of the battery bank doesnt end up in landfill.
Repairable battery banks when?!
Twenty five years ago today I started the #Safari and #WebKit projects at #Apple Computer.
Which means Safari is now old enough to rent itself a car. But let's not speculate about my age.
I'm still sad I can't use Safari on my Windows PC. Alas, I lost the battle to keep it there. But at least WebKit's DNA seeded or influenced most browsers we use today.
And I'm proud of that impact. Along with the wonderful team I built who made it all happen. Here's to another 25, friends.
Cheers. 🥂😊💖
damnnn can tell I'm a woman now, just experienced transmisogyny directly for the first time lmao
And thinking on it, I think the Steam Machine is better value than any other product in its price bracket.
The same can't now be said for the Steam Deck. There are better (or at the very least, more compelling) deals elsewhere for handheld gaming PCs.
For me, most my gaming happens on my Steam Deck because it doesnt turn my room into a furnace. The same will be the case for the Steam Machine. Form factor and heat is king!
But if I look at other solutions in that form factor _and_ TDP? It stings a lot less. But as ever with PC gaming, you save on games. Games are dirt cheap, AND theyre compatible on basically any machine you can shoe horn steam onto.
That being said, I think ARM will eventually change the value proposition of the Steam Machine
The #SteamMachine IS a hard sell when you look at _just_ the performance. Do I wish it were cheaper? Absolutely. But also the AI price squeeze is freakin' real.
For me the sell for the Steam Machine (when I have the money) is:
- A 6" cube that can play most games at decent enough settings
- a low TDP which means that my room wont become *more* of a furnace when gaming
- HDMI CEC support
- Wake from controller support
But paying nearly 1k is gonna sting ngl
#Butch #transfemme s of the fedi, pls respond to my post:
The longer I see the internet enshittify, the more I see the internet like our planet: a delicately balanced ecosystem.
The more we centralise things, the more we pollute our internet with convenience over quality, the worse the experience will get. Much like the more we pollute, the hotter the planet gets.
People need to understand that a internet worth being on will take _effort_ to engage in. Being a good netizen means tending to our delicate (and collapsing) internet!
Just read some posts about how a lot of people are apparently "put off" of Mastodon because of the community's "HOA" behaviour.
The behaviour in question? Things like ensuring appropriate trigger warnings on posts.
They make the argument that its too much to ask. Well, sorry. This is effortful social media.
The Fediverse has remained one of the only safe places on the internet for me, consistently, for the last 7 years.
PSA: Disabilities are not (always) binary.
A disabled person may use mobility aids, such as sticks, wheelchairs or scooters. Sometimes they may also be able to walk a few steps or short distance unaided. That usually depends on the level of pain and/or fatigue they're experiencing. Just because they can sometimes walk unaided, doesn't mean they don't need their mobility aids or that they can walk further.
A disabled person may be able to do an activity occasionally. It doesn't necessarily mean they can do that activity repeatedly or every day. Again this depends often on pain and fatigue levels. Some days a disabled person may feel able to climb a flight of stairs or have a long telephone conversation, other days they may be housebound and struggle to communicate.
Please check yourself before you judge. One serious injury or illness is all it can take for an able person to become disabled.

@dan131riley @mastodonmigration@mastodon.online @Popehat @emptywheel if they think "hey, we have a lot of minorities here that have had their mere existence politicised and are more aware than most the political systems trying to make them not exist, and it'd help their mental health greatly if we exercised empathy and didn't shove 'this political group is trying to off you' into their eye sockets without their consent every third post" is something they disagree with, I'm not sure their absense here has been a net harm to people on fedi :bear_shrug:
cw'ing isn't hard... this world has topics that grind down our mental health, especially for marginalised people, and in a world where fascism is on the rise (where overwhelming their targets is a literal part of its playbook), cw'ing is radical, antifascist, and most of all, empathetic behaviour :eevee_joy:
I don't understand the Conservative Party of Canada. This is also the most Conservative Party thing the Conservative Party can do for pride.
It's not a bad thing, but... what?!
