The fun thing about the Dvorak keyboard layout is, if you're off by one column you make up fun words.

Zohran Mamdani on July 4th
I am 100% better off for having dumped him as soon as I did.
I learned a lot from him about what to avoid in a potential life partner.
I hope he found happiness between then and now, in his own way and on his own efforts. He apparently continued with the poetry and the music, and while his works weren't to my tastes, I trust he found fulfillment in them.
Looking at his obituary page, I see that many, many people are remembering him lovingly. I can be happy for that.
[thread ends]
(This is not me regretting a damn thing - this is me just mulling over Funny Old Thing, Life.)
I don't think he ever did marry. The obituary page is full of people talking about what a good Follower of JESUS he was, and what good work he did for charity and what a kind friend he was.
I remember him showing me his music and poetry and expecting unadulterated praise for such. I remember him denigrating my own fiction and poetry. I remember him constantly bugging me to cut my hair (I didn't).
On the one hand, the guy I actually hooked up with for life is still alive and kicking, and may we both do so for another 50 years and more.
On the other, if I'd wound up marrying this dude - he was most definitely the marrying type and considered finding The One to be the reward God owed him for being a good Catholic, so that was a hard no for me, plus the whole "I'm older so I know better" he pulled on me in pretty much every disagreement - who's to say he wouldn't still be alive? Who knows?
Today, as I've done every 5 years or so, I looked up my terrible unadvisedly older ex-boyfriend from college, with whom I spent about 6 months of 1994/95 before breaking up with him (got together with @worldnamer shortly after, yay) just to see what he's up to and maybe laugh a little.
Found out he died last year. He was 62.
I'm neither laughing nor mourning here, I'm just sort of "Wow, what a bizarre thing to find out on a Saturday afternoon."
(Out)living well is the best revenge, I guess?
Instead of celebrating independence with fireworks, why not try:
- 20 questions with an enchanted skull
- tea party with the twig witch
- make historical costumes out of moss
- drift into the cosmos, physically or chemically
- wrap a crown of bones in eldritch fire & outshine everyone
Today is July 4th in America. Should you celebrate? You can celebrate that we once took down a tyrant, and that we should do it again, yes.
Meanwhile, here is James Earl Jones reading Frederick Douglass’ speech about the 4th of July.

Instead of explosions today, why not share peace & quiet with your neighbors?
Why not share tea & conversation?
Why not share books, movies, and laughter?
Why not share boozy milkshakes with the old forest gods under a blanket of stars?

Just going to point out that "shitposting" is just an anagram for "TOP INSIGHTS" and leave it at that.
Windows recanted yet again. The file transfer is complete. My first day doing the writing thing on the new machine is off to a SPLENDID start!
Good grief, Scrivener has changed its keyboard shortcut for Insert Comment _again._ WHY YOU GOTTA?
Meanwhile in Boulder, the 4th is shaping up to be relatively peaceful. We're not even in the flight path of the big state-wide Blue Angels flyover.
There will probably be some booms. Holland will likely not care. Holland is not convinced that anything outside the house is real, nor sees why it should concern him.
What concerns him is that the Adequate Human keeps trying to clean up his molt fluff. She is hereby demoted to Deeply Substandard Human.
(Favorite Human is napping and good for him.)
ha ha ha
the real marathon will be copying over the working writing directory from the old machine, to make sure I get the latest versions of whatever files I haven't been backing up like I should
57 GB over the network bay-bee
"About 15 hours remaining" and this time it's sticking to its story, so
[Stand-up comedian voice] I'll be here all night
Hay una manifestación de nazis en Washington por el 4 de julio. Como son nazis, también son idiotas, así que han decidido ir todos uniformados con camisa oscura de manga larga con una sensación térmica de 44 grados.
look, at least include the video version of a JUMP TO RECIPE button, damn your eyes
[engage OLD LADY SHOUTING AT CLOUDS mode]
I clicked a recipe link.
It went to INSTAGRAM.
It went to an INSTAGRAM VIDEO.
In order to know the ingredients for the cocktail I would have to spend time watching a video hype the drink for, like, minutes
I just want a text list of ingredients that I can scan with my eyeballs in, like, 5 seconds tops, I don't need to watch you swirling the drink around in my face like I'm a goddamn baby you're trying to tempt into drinking it
Me: {{begins copying all writing archives from the USB backup drive to the new machine}}
Windows: "Eight hours and 30 minutes remaining."
Me: Eh, par for the course.
Windows: "1 day remaining."
Me: lolsob guess I'm just writing on 4thewords today no big deal
Windows: "1 hour and 5 minutes remaining."
Me: ...
Windows: "28 minutes remaining."
Me: ...Every word out of your mouth is a DAMN LIE.
In case you missed it: getting the #shingles #vaccine lowers your risk of dementia later in life by 20% and even slows the progress of the disease for people already suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Shingles itself is awful: painful and even mentally debilitating. So please consider getting the vaccine.
