We forget just how many lives #COVID19 took from us. I was just watching a video about the movie “That Thing You Do” (a favorite of mine), and the guy who wrote the famous song died of COVID complications in April 2020. Adam Schlesinger not only wrote That Thing You Do, but he was also a founding member of several bands (including Fountains of Wayne).

Every time I hear someone say we “overreacted,” I wonder how short their memory was of how many we lost, particularly in 2020 to 2023.

Anyone have Visible Wireless (the MVNO run by Verizon that uses their network)? They have a limit on hotspot speeds, max is 15MB/s on high end plan. I have Verizon now that doesn't limit the hotspot speed, so I often get more than 150MB/s. But wondering if ultimately I don't need that speed anyways. The most bandwidth intensive thing I do with the hotspot is web meetings or streaming services. Visible is significantly less expensive and on the same network.

I’ve made a few VPs unhappy in my corporate days by refusing to cater to their self-induced frenzies.

“But my boss wants this tomorrow, you have to drop everything! They’re a VP!”

“They’re not my VP and their lack of planning isn’t my team’s responsibility.”

To be clear, I tried to be a team player and to respond quickly for real urgent situations. Need to respond to a zero-day announcement? Yes, we’ll jump for that. Sure! The VP just has a QBR and wants one more bucket bullet point on the slides? Or didn’t plan ahead for the analytics they want? That’s a shame.

I always fought false urgency because I wanted the ability to respond when something was legitimately urgent, without being burned out or burning out others. (I might also have a minor oppositional streak. Maybe.)

Interestingly, the phone number it gave for the Advance Auto is a place who's 3 digit address ### is the same as the made up address it gave for the Advance location. It seems it's just making shit up to satisfy the request. I have seen this somewhat in Microsoft 365 Copilot, but not this bad.

These stores are in the next town over, not at the addresses indicated by Copilot. The phone number it gave for the Advance Auto is another completely different place that has nothing to do with auto parts. The phone number for the AutoZone looks like a residential number.

I just asked Copilot (consumer version) to help me locate an auto part. It just confidently informed me that the part should be in stock at a local Advance Auto Parts. The store they suggest doesn't exist. I scrolled down and it shows that AutoZone also has the part. Also at a store that doesn't exist.
